Default Whatever happened to this Blackberry design?

When the BoyGenius dropped the photos of the new 8800/8300 series blackberries last year, this was the design that I fell in love with. Whatever happened to it?

With some minor alterations, that's the 8800.

Looking more closely at the keyboard I see it's the German version. QWERTZ.

Looks like a 8300 prototype. You can definately see the 8800 influence in its keyboard though.

RIM most likely decided the released design worked better.

Yea, thats what I was thinking. They felt users would feel more comfortable typing on the released design rather than this one, but I still like the overall design better on this as opposed to the released one's. Its more elegant looking rather than utilitarian.
