so i just called one of those business reps at tmobile and they told me they are NOT taking pre orders..i told them one of my "co workers" had alreayd ordered one and he asked me for a confirmation number and he told me that there is no way they can sell a phone that's not in the system..
just talked to a second business rep. i told him to ask around and he talked to his supervisor and he said they've NEVER taken pre orders..?!?

I pre-ordered, but added a new line to my business account and T-Mobile sent back a confirmation! Sounds like you need a new rep!

I think they mean their individual reps (like the ones that come to your office). Because regular customer service (including for business customers isn't taking pre-orders at all, nor have they ever.

There's atleast 3 or 4 people that have posted affirming pre-release orders. I personally have received a confirmation email from TMO (not the rep) of my order...

ok i just a business rep he said business reps at the center aren't taking pre orders but he was allowed to. so i went ahead and pre ordered the phone at 299 with a new contract. he said i can essentially add the data plan on and when the 50 dollar rebate comes i can cancel so that's what i did :p
they are also no longer giving it for 249 even though i asked him to honor it :p

Well, for my two cents...I think it's not right that business customers get this and regular people/employees don't. From someone who couldn't get the 8800 because of pre-orders, not enough stock and then discontinuing it from the upgrade program...this is irritating.

Got my Gold 8320 today (for free) :D from at a special t-mobile unveiling event in D.C. and it is working very well. But, I am having trouble trying to setup a coworker on wifi. I connect to the access point (same one I am connected to) and he never seems to be able to get onto it. It is weird..I have pulled the battery. Deleted the wifi profile and re-added and still no dice. Any suggestions? It shouldn't be that we are both on the same AP because they are advertising family plan packages with this and that wouldn't work if you couldn't connect more than one per AP.
Thanks,
Joe

It could be a function of the router . . . routers can be configured as DHCP server and allow only a specific number of requests/connections from communication devices. . . once that limit is reached, then no one else can connect . . . check with your network admin to see if this is the case.

It is an access point. Cisco router is serving up DCHP. My boss was able to connect his wifi to the same AP I have mine connected to. But not this user.

I heard that they might not have any available even on Monday, since it is supposed to go to new customers/new activations first, but they might have just said that to get me to get a new line.

Consider that 99.9% of us don't have the 8320 (gold or otherwise) to play with yet, answering your question would be difficult. However, I think in this-very thread (or perhaps a related one) there were several posts from someone who indeed had good luck with wi-fi, even without a SIM card in one case. Search around and PM him. Then let us know
Good luck.

I got my 8320 ordered today for shipment friday and a monday delivery. Pretty happy with that. Got a confirmation from T-Mobile and it says the color is titanium, so that's a win in my book.
I'll let you all know if I have a tracking # tomorrow.

Yes, I agree in that I expect T-Mobile will not restrict the curve to New subscribers only at launch... (if they do, I'm going to have some really upset users on my hand.)
HOWEVER I disagree with your statement that T-Mobile never restricts to NEW only... because I've seen them restrict hand sets to new subscribers only in the past...

Depends on what you mean...
It will connect to any wi-fi hotspot/router as long as its "open" or you know the keys... So internet will work...
I'm trying to learn more about UMA connection and VOICE calling while overseas... since that goes across the internet, any delays, latency, etc back to T-Mobiles gateway could impact this part.

Went to my local T-Mobile store to talk to the rep about the Curve. They are still guessing on the price and said they probably wouldn't know until Sat. He said that the store is getting 10 total. 5 Gold and 5 silver. And if they sell out of those, it'll be the week after until they get more in.
Luckily, the rep hooked me up. He told to call Sunday before they close and he'll hold a silver one for me, since I can't make it out until Monday afternoon/evening after work. I'm still within my 14-day return policy/honeymoon so I'll get it for the new customer price.
Money in the bank!

Yeah, I am more interested in voice calling and wondering if it will work on any open wifi connection overseas.

Just called my local store. They wouldn't even confirm it being released on Monday and couldn't confirm that if it did come out that I'd be able to buy it full price without a contract. SIGH... guess I'll have to wait and see.
Also, this is getting critical as my BB radio just plain stopped working on my yesterday! Just getting "no signal"

This is the 1st time I've seen pricing on a cell phone remain a complete mystery this long, well at least the full price.

Based on the existing UMA handsets available this works without any issues overseas and I don'ty see why the 8320 should be any different.
I have personally used UMA in a number of countries and seen reports of others who have used it in countless more - latency doesn't seem to be an issue and the call quality has been excellent.
What doesn't happen when roaming (either overseas or in the US) is the automatic handoff to GSM (and vice versa) - the call will just drop - which I guess is good if you want to ensure you are not going to be charged roaming rates!

Exactly. Its actually quite funny that it been held from the entire Tmo world except the people who issue or decide the price.

Called the store I usually go to and they said that, although it's being officially released on Monday, it's not gonna be available until mid-week. So many different freakin' stories!!

I wonder if an 8320 will still work (voice over WiFi) when a foreign SIM card is being used in an unlocked phone? Or will you have to roam unless you have a H@H plan? I will assume that it still won't switch back and forth between UMA/GSM, but the rest I'm curious about.

Thanks for the confirm. It's pretty much what I expected price wise. Wish I could go to the store to pick one up and just bill it to my account.

thanks. i figured i would have had to renew.when i first bought my 8700, 15 months ago, tmobile did not offer upgrade pricing. the lady told me i would have to pay full retail on the phone if i ever wanted to upgrade. is this a new policy or did the saleswoman not know what she was talking about?

handhelds are always priced much lower when signing up for new line of service. . . if you're out of contract and willing to change mobile number, then just drop you current line and pick up the device with new line of service...

Correct Information -
09-21-2007, 07:47 PM
Hello All,
I called the big T today. I'm 9 months into a two year contract and they advise that to upgrade to the 8320, if the contract was extended that it would be 267 but if I didn't extend the contract it was be 299. I know this is the same pricing for the 8100. I did make sure she understood that I was talking about the Curve. Given my past experience with Tmobile customer service and not being completely forth coming, I am skeptical. Does anyone know if this is close to accurate?
Thanks,
Chase
