Default Thanks a million...ggraves! - 03-31-2008, 11:08 PM

Have a hard time keeping BB 8830 stay connected with a new Nuvi 760. Follow your simple procedure to downgrade to bluetooth sw v. 2.4 and got it paired up and stay connected immediately. You save my day! Thanks.

FYI

The fix by ggraves worked great. I did use Webupdater a couple of nights ago and there is an update for the Garmin from 3.0 to 3.10. This update fixes the Bluetooth disconnection problem with my Blackberry 8703e. I have the Garmin Nuvi 660.

Great forum, lots of helpful information.

Yes, the firmware update fixes the "disconnect" issue with the 8830 and the Garmin 360. Did it successfully a few days ago.

I can sync and it hooks up properly, but then unexplainably disconnects within about 15 seconds. To make matters even more frustrating, it will occasionally stay hooked up and work perfectly all day long (about 10-15% of the time).

Most of the time, when I first turn the GPS on, the Blackberry will automatically try to hook up, with the results as stated above. Occasionally, I will have to manually envoke the connection.

Has anyone had similar experience, and if so, how did you remedy the situation?

Thanks in advance,

There is currently a known issue with some phones and our latest Bluetooth update. To correct this we will need to install an older Bluetooth version into your unit. There is a file attached to this email. When you receive this file you will want to save it to the computer. Then- 1.Connect device to computer and delete the original file (My
Computer>Garmin (drive)>Garmin (folder)>Remote SW (folder)>(specific
Bluetooth file).gcd
2.Disconnect the unit from the computer, allow to boot up, turn the unit off then back on again.
3.Reconnect to computer and paste new file in same above folder.
4.Disconnect the unit from the computer, allow to boot up.
5.From Menu screen tap on the View map icon.
6.Tap on Speed indicator in lower left hand corner of screen.
7.Press and hold on round speed indicator until screen changes (approx 10 seconds) 8.Tap on the Next button until you see the tab Updt PR (wide screen nuvi), Updt P (on z?mo and c5xx) or Updt (on small screen nüvi ) and press this tab.
9.Confirm ?Do you really want to update the bluetooth firmware??
10.Press quit, turn unit off.
11.Allow unit to boot up and confirm software change to older version.
After doing this follow these instructions to correct the settings on your Blackberry.
1. After doing the software update delete the pairing history from both the blackberry and the gps.
2. Power cycle both units .
3. Repair from the blackberry to the gps.
4. Once paired correct the Blackberry settings by going to
Bluetooth>devices>select device>device properties
5. The settings need to be
Encryption-Disabled
Trusted ?Yes
Discoverable- Yes for auto pair.
6. Power cycle both devices.

I am not sure what version of bluetooth I have on my 660 but every time I had trouble what i would do is Put the phone into the mode where the garmin could see it and allow the garmin to find the phone, not the other way around. Once I did this I have not had a problem.
I am currently using a sprint 8330 curve with my garmin 660 and everything works perfect even the address book comes across great.

Ill check my bluetooth version and let everyone know

I am having problems, as I have tried the "standard" procedure for updating the firmware and am currently running software update 4.4 for the nuvi and 2.4 for bluetooth, but i can't get my 8830 World Edition from Verizon to pair. Any thoughts appreciated.

What part of the process exactly are you having a problem with? If you could be more specific, maybe we could help.

Default Another satisfied (somewhat) lurker. - 07-10-2008, 09:36 PM

I just wanted to add my name to the list of people thanking ggraves (sp?) for the link earlier. I just got my 760 paired with my 8830. I was frustrated for a minute, but after I went to the "secret" menu and reloaded, all was well.

Has anyone found a way to get the phonebook to transfer to the nuvi yet?

Thanks again.

Great forum.

Mine has always been enabled but still have yet to get phonebook to transfer. When I go to the phonebook on the Garmin the only entry is GSM with a negative integer as a phone number.

Garmin Nuvi 680 and BB 7100i

Anyone else have this problem?

Hi everyone.
I have been trying to download the older version of Bluetooth but keep getting the 3.10 version after following the link.
it has been a nightmare trying to pair my garmin 680 with my blackberry curve. I cant even pair the two!
Has anything else worked for anyone, maybe even updating something on the phone itself? I will appreciate any help as it was because of the bluetooth connectivity that I decided to buy the Garmin and can't even use it now.

Default fix for your problems - 08-11-2008, 09:53 PM

Had the same problem. Requires update of bluetooth firmware (found on crackberry user site). On the View Map screen touch "Speed"; at Dashboard view hold the "Moving Average" button for 15 seconds; this gets you into Diagnostic Mode. Press "next" until you get to Bluetooth Status screen (5-6 screens in). Click "Updt Page Ranking" and then click Yes. Software update will download and install. Then delete existing pairing (on your blackberry in the bluetooth program you can toggle to delete button) reboot Nuvi (push power button to the left for 8 seconds) then reinstall phone. Solves problem. No idea who discovered this first but it's actually easy and works.
