Default No way to setup personal e-mail

Please Login to Remove!

I just picked up my Curve this morning from a T-Mobile corporate store. The phone works fine. I just got home and wanted to get it set-up for e-mail. The set-up poster that came with it says to go to the "Set up Internet E-mail" icon and select that. I don't have any such icon on mine. I went through the Setup Wizard and the only option it had was to setup a BES connection. I didn't think much of it at the time thinking that I had to login to T-Mobile's Blackberry website and get my personal e-mail account setup that way and I expected to see the address to go to on the setup poster. Any suggestions?

Did you subscribe to a BlackBerry Data Plan from TMo? Its a $19.99 add on to your plan. Without it you won't get the setup internet email icon or a browser.

Yes, I know I was because the guy signing me up mentioned that my monthly rate wouldn't change because my previous phone had unlimited Internet for $19.99 and the Blackberry data was the same price. Maybe he didn't set it up right or does it take some amount of time to get "pushed" to the phone?

The T-Mobile page still shows my old phone so I don't get any kind of BIS account creation page.

Do you have upper case EDGE? Try going to options >advanced options >host routing table >menu key (left of trackball) and select register now.

I heard t-mo can sometimes take several hours for the data plan to be provisioned properly.

Best thing to do would be to call TMobile customer care and have them double check. It might just be a matter of waiting a little while for the data plan to activate.

They say 4-24 hours, although it usually takes less than one hour.

Do a battery pull about once an hour until you notice the setup and browser icon

On the tmo site, click on the link "not my phone" or whatever it is, and change to the blackberry.

My edge notification is in lower case.

I did the "register now" thing and the arrows in the upper right-hand corner blinked a few times. When I go back to the Host Routing Tables there are no entries. Maybe T-Mobile just hasn't got my account setup for this yet.

Make sure, as John Clark stated, you call them and confirm you have the BLACKBERRY Data Plan. Your clerk may have assumed the one you had was the same since it was the same cost. Confirm.

Look at your account info on the tmo site to be sure the tmo rep switched you to the blackberry data plan.

I don't doubt that it has taken a while for some, but that was never the case for me.

I wasn't qualified for the full discount based on my contact but my wife was. We used her phone number to get the full discount. I bet they added the Blackberry data plan to her phone number instead of mine. I'm on hold with the Blackberry Support department right now.

The account had no Blackberry data plan associated with it so that explains it. Thanks for the help everyone.

Glad the resolution was as straightforward as having TMo add the right data plan!

Re: "change to the blackberry" -- I don't see an option yet on my.t-mobile.com to select an 8320. Still not there yet...I'm guessing we'll see it there Monday morning.

Here's what I was referring to in my reply to the OP above: After you log into My T-Mobile, you'll see a pic of your phone model at near the top right of the page. Above that is a link, "Not Your Phone?" When I bought my 8700g, the Tmo page still showed my 7100t, and of course my old pin was thus still in the system. Don't know if Tmo should have or could have changed it; but I had to change BIS to the new 8700g myself.

Edit: There was not a "change blackberry" link. But the first step was the "Not Your Phone?" link. From there I did get a page that showed my 7100t and the new 8700g, and I simply clicked on the 8700g. (Thus, I imagine, if one owns two or more blackberry's, one can simply switch the BIS from one PIN to the other for the blackberry being used at the time. Pretty cool.)

Yes, the PIN and IMEI must be changed on the BIS site. The picture of your device does not change much, other than where the user is directed for their OS updates, etc. The device you choose there is not controlled by TMo, but the user.

The "update device" link is at the BIS site after signin.

If you are lucky enough to get a CSR who knows what a PIN is.
