I hope that I am not the only one who has had the misfortune of having their trackball get stuck and not move in one direction... But I couldn't find any posts on it so here is a link that I found helpful in getting mine back to going.
I found it, and many others, by typing "trackball disassembly" into the search bar.

"Disassembly" was the only one I didn't try. I knew as soon as I posted it that somebody would probably find it.hehe Pictures here are much better than the ones I found. Thanks for the correction!
Thank you for that! I have been having intermittent problems with my track ball not wanting to scroll down, so I will definitely bookmark this for future use.
Get a can of Air and blast directly into the trackball. That fixed my 8800's problem. Make sure to hold the can vertical and shoot a test blast or two to make sure you're not shooting frost.

I had the malfunctioning trackball, wouldn't go up. Blowing compressed air didn't help. I then popped off the silver rink using the procedure outlined in the link, and this lets the trackball unit out. I didn't disassemble the unit but just used compressed air on it and in the space, put it back together and -- fingers crossed -- it is working fine. This is a *much* less risky procedure than disassembling the trackball unit.
