Hi,
I am completely new to all this and would welcome any advise at all.
I have never owned a smart phone before and I am at a complete loss about everything.

Moved to 8500 section.

First of all, read the user guide.

Make sure you have a BB data plan.

Read our FAQ.

Use the SEARCH function if you have questions and before you post.

Google is also your friend.

Look at this link. It will show you the features of the device and what it can do.

BlackBerry - Curve 8520 Features - Trackpad Navigation - Media Keys

And check out the video.
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Curve 8520 Videos

Also click the links on the page under BlackBerry 101.
Then read the help on your phone, or the manual on the CD that came in the box.
Then read our BlackBerryFAQ here also.

Thought I'd pop this in here, I've recently acquired an 8520 myself and have read the manual from front to back and also read the website, however I cannot get my head around how to link my Hotmail address to my Blackberry. When going to Email setup I have the option of "I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server" where as all of the FAQs I have come across say there should simply be an "Add email option". Am I doing something wrong here? When clicking the work email option I'm asked for an activation server address, and I have absolutely no idea what that is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers folks

I presume you have the blackberry data plan (or Orange's named equivilent)
you can do it from the BIS site for Orange.
its alot easier.

I'm trying to sign up to the BIS site and have inputted the PIN and IMEI in an attempt to register. However, it says the device is not listed with my wireless service provider. I'm attempting to find the applications list, but the only folder I have on my device has no 'advanced options' or 'setting options' so I cannot set up the HRT. This is my first smart phone and I honestly don't have a clue what I'm doing as you can tell!

the wrench icon is options
in that will be advanced options
then host routing table.

also call orange, ask for technical support and ask them about it.
they'll be able to set some stuff up and walk you through the rest

oh my, Iam experiecing the same difficulty but im on Tmobile. I recently purchased a blackberry 8520 on pay as you go unlocked and i am having difficulty setting up my Email account.
The first time I switched on the phone, the automatic setup wizard opened, and enabled me to choose the option of either '' i want to create or add an Email address'' or ''i want to use a work email account with a blackberry enterprise server''. I clicked on the second option but realised after the setup was complete, that the option was for coporate business customers and I am an individual user.
I attempted to reset again by the setup wizard in order to add my Email Address. But when I Returned to ''set up an Email Address'' the only option to choose from was the one with the ''Blackberry Enterprise Server''. I've tried to access the Email option through it, but it requests an enterprise activation password, which i do not have.
I was wandering whether anybody could help me go back to the original settings of the blackberry and reboot it ( i have already done the wipe handheld, still the problem persists) or could you please help me find an alternative way to set or add my Email to the phone i've only had it for one day.

oh im sorry I may sound like a blackberry illiterate but what is OS please?

stephystar, first of all please do not post the exact same thing in 10 different places. I have deleted all your other posts.

OS means operating system.

Im sorry about that, so operating system means your service provider, such as t mobile? why does it need to be updated and you downloaded

No, an operating system is what makes you phone run. Just like the operating system of a PC can be Windows Vista.

The small hole at the bottom of the BB is the microphone, not a reset hole!

ok thank you, sorry im asking so many questions im new to the terminology, and im racking my brain to try and find out what the problem with my phone is. So what are the blackberry operating systems in use ?
i heard there was a small hole at the bottom or around the blackberry, that master reseted it. If any one knows of it, please could you help me out, and if anyone has a step by step guide in using jl cmdr, that would be of so much help.

Are you using jlcmder because you cant setup email?
It wont help. as ive pm'd you about, you cant get email without the blackberry email booster.
wiping the phone will not change this.

Erm i get what ur saying, but im in the exact position as 'Wolversam'. im not too fussed about the Email setup, but it's just the fact that the option of add email does not appear on my setup wizard, which is strange because, it was there when i first turned on the phone. And now i only have the option of adding a work account with blackberry enterprise server. I just want to find out where the other option went, and how i can retrive it again. i thought maybe if i totally restarted the whole system the option would come back, but this doesn't seem to be the case?

No. When you first turn on a BB, it has the default things in it.
When it registers with the network, it knows you dont have the appropriate things to use that option. So it removes that option.

If you don't plan on getting the email booster, to use email AND internet including apps that use data; then stop trying to get the option back. It doesnt matter.
Leave it alone, otherwise you might end up with a brick.

thank you, that's really helpful, so do u reckon if i insert a different network sim card the problem will still persist? the phone is unlocked so i think i will join Orange UK, because they do the blackberry 8520 on pay as you go and offer boosters as well, do you think this is a good idea?

once you have a blackberry data plan, with whatever carrier, the option will reappear (should) reappear.
Its generaly better if you can, to set up personal email on the BIS page for your carrier, as you can create a username and password all in the same process.

Go to Orange. This is your best way.

Pauljtrouser.

Several problems with your post. First you posted in someone else's topic that is totally unrelated to your question. Second, posting your email address, imei code and asking someone to send you an unlock code is not real bright, sorry. Also it's not gonna happen.

You can try to get an unlock code from your carrier, or you can purchase one from our premium sponsor Horizon Wireless. Click their ad on this page and you can get a discount.
