Hi my is Patrick and I'm a Rookie BlackBerry User 8520.

I have used a HP IPAQ 111 (Windows Mobile 6.1) and a cell phone. I'm an educational consultant and use Outlook for e-mail, calendar, and contacts.

The IPAQ served me well in WiFi Spots. My question:
What applications do I need to do the following:
1. check my bank account
2. utility applications for productive work
3. everyday applications that make the Blackberry useful and productive.
4. YouTube Videos
5. BB Maps -it is useful?

I will take suggestions to be my BlackBerry use in my daily work...

Thanks-The Rookie

To get the most out of the blackberry, you should have a blackberry data plan on your mobile service account. The blackberry really is not a standalone device; it is a compnent in an end to end solution and meant to be used with the RIM network.

See if your make has a mobile friendly web page and if it is compatible with the blackberry browser or an aftermarket browser such as opera mini.

The native blackberry applications may be all you need. Do some research on aftermarket applications if not.

I think blackberry maps is great. Many don't. Many use google's blackberry navigation app, and some use the paid applications that are more full-featured and provide voice prompts.

You will be able to use the mobile youtube site if you use a newer blackberry model that has a video player.

Don't think the 8520 has GPS so the map apps won't be very useful unless you have a GPS puck.

Most of what you ask has been covered several times. Please use the SEARCH feature, look in the After Market section.

As for productivity applications, what are you asking about - what are your needs? Check BB App World, but you will need a BB dataplan to do so.

I personally think the BB is very useful right out of the box witht he phone, email, calendar and contact apps.
