Default New Phone, Few Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I have had 3 curves the 8330 I believe they were in the past with bad luck on the keyboards. So I switched to just a basic flip phone but I couldn't live with it. So I bought the new curve 8530. As well this time I got the data plan through bell. So I know the phone pretty well but im new to the data side of things. Just got a few questions, I have searched but never really found the answers I was looking for.

Can I tell how much data I have used? I really dont want to go over my 500MB when I can just wait till the next month to get the application or whatever I am after.

I downloaded the facebook app and after doing so I noticed that all my contacts are like tripped or quadrupled. I believe it is related to the facebook app but I would not be able to say for sure.

As well I cannot download the desktop software on my computer. If I do it from the CD it just comes up a gray screen and if I try from the site windows installer has a problem and has to close. I have tried restarting and retrying with no luck. I have vista if it matters.

Thanks for any help!

Wirelessly posted (The Dacia Sandero of data plan)

Depending on usage, 500MB is a generous data limit. If you are just browsing the web, sending emails, you shouldn't hit that limit. Tethering and streaming music will eat up data quickly though. There might be 3rd party apps that could help monitor your data usage (don't recall any off hand). I use Opera Mini and that has a built in data counter.

I don't use the FB app myself but I believe your contact duplicates are related to the program. There's a setting that combines your FB contacts with your phone's address book.

Some carriers have that info posted on their website in your specific account area. Not sure if Bell does, so you might want to check. Keep in mind however, that it could be a couple days behind and not up to the minute accurate.

You could probably also call the carrier and find out.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the duplicate contacts? If I could get desktop manager then I would do it that way but it will take way to long to do it on the phone!

Also does anyone have any ideas why I cant install the desktop software?

Thanks a million
Love the phone other than these problems!

I don't believe Bell allows tethering on 500 mb of data, so unless you stream video constantly and are a heavy google maps user, I doubt you would go over. Blackberry's use less data than other smartphones as well, I don't see many customers go over 500 mb, it is very rare.

I know my carriers website has a data usage calculator, you can select your device, then scroll up the different things you can do on your phone as to how much you will do each thing, and it will calculate an estimate of data used. It gives customers a good idea in most cases.

I hope by now, DM has installed. I also have Vista and downloaded DM from the website. For your duplicate contacts, just delete them. I've only had them re-duplicate if I do a restore from the period in time when the dups were present, but if you can't sync, then that shouldn't be a problem. Are you running DM or saving it? At which point is the gray screen coming up?
