Default BB services gets disconnected

Please Login to Remove!

carrier: vodafone India (mumbai)
Model info and OS version: v5.0.0.592 (Bundle 1096, Platform 5.2.0.64)

Issue: sometimes the BB services (that i have subscribed through my service provider) gets disconnected. In gtalk & yahoo messengers i get a message "unable to contact server" & BB messenger shows that "red" clock on the left of the message indicating the message is not yet sent..also i dont recieve any email messages.

This lasts for 20-25 minutes and then i get back the connectivity.
During this time if i hard boot the device, services work properly.
The EDGE remains in capital during this time.
It happens once or twice a day.

I called up the service provider, they did some troubleshooting but it did not help.
I also upgraded the firmware through desktop manager but it did not help.

What can be the issue?

Thanks

When you lose blackberry services, do you just drop from EDGE to edge, does the blackberry show that you have completely lost signal, or is the radio shutting off?

What did the carrier's customer service do as far as troubleshooting?

When i lose the services the EDGE remains in capital, it does not drop to edge.
Also i can make & receive calls, i can send and receive sms during that period.

As far as the troubleshooting is concerned, they asked me to delete the appearances of BB messenger & gtalk and asked me to hard boot the device.

But that did not help.

I'm guessing it is not you. But if you are still having trouble, I would try resending service books and doing another, longer battery pull.

See How do I resend my service books? - BlackBerryFAQ.

Also, be sure and do the battery pull with the power on. Wait one to two minutes this time.

If that doesn't fix things, then call the carrier back. If they have separate support for blackberry, ask. Also ask for technical support. Tell them what you have done to troubleshoot. The main thing is to be polite but insistent that they fix the problem.

Thanks for your reply..
The carrier customer support asked me to delete the instances of BBM & Gtalk from the service book itself & asked me to hard boot..
This did not solve the problem so i called them back.
They said if i format the device it may solve the problem.
But i am not sure whether that will work.
Please guide me.

I'm not sure what they meant by format the device, but I'm guessing they meant re-install the device software (that is, the operating system and native applications, or, the OS).

If you are not using the latest OS version, it won't hurt to upgrade. Look at the top of this model series forum and you'll see the "latest OS" threads. Open the one that corresponds to your model and read it carefully. Then follow the directions to install the new OS.

If you are using the latest, then you could wipe the device with JL_CMDER and then re-install the OS. It's worth a try. See the following for downloading and using JL_CMDER:

By format they meant re-installing the OS.
Any ways i will try your suggestion & see whether it works or not.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got it working. Interesting that wiping it seems to be what it took to fix the problem.

@aiharkness - Initially i felt that wiping solved the problem. But it did not. I contacted the carrier & they asked me to replace the SIM. I did that too but still i face the same problem. What i feel is that it happens in one particular area (where my home is) it did not happen in any other areas. So i will observe it for few days in different areas, if it doesnt work out then i will see what to do?

Also whenever the services get disconnected (Note: EDGE always remains in capital) i used to do a battery pull & i used to get back the connectivity. Recently i discovered that even if i switch off the mobile network (in "Manage COnnections") & then switch it on, i get back the connectivity. I need not do the battery pull. Can there be any problem with the device itself? Asking this out of curiosity.
