Default my Curve 8520 got wet. :(

Hi guys, hope I'm posting this issue in the right place. Last night, I dropped my BB on a of large Subway soda, how unfortunate. What's most alarming is I don't have any idea how to respond to a wet mobile. I just did all the no no's. :( I try to dry everything out but put the battery back in,. even charge it! how stupid, and I did it a lot of times. Not until I've googled some solution,

The last thing I turned my bb, it put a solid red light for a few seconds and just a white screen, the keypad was still lit, hope it still ok, now it's sitting on a container of uncooked rice like everyone is saying.

my question is there any hope of my bb? I've done a lot of wrong things trying to recover it, or I should prepare its funeral? lol. Is there any sign that I've short circuit that thing?

Any suggestion or words of comfort will really help me.

The only real comfort I suspect I could provide now is that insurance is a wonderful thing. Did you insure the device?

Nope, my device is not insured. It means, there's no chance? or i'll have just wait 2 more days, hope it's not too late. I want to be on "I'll drop my bb on water and it survived" stories..

Moved to the 8500 section..

Leave it in the rice for 4-5 days before you do anything. However, if you put the battery in and charged it already, it could be fried. In any case the soda will do almost as much harm as the wet.

Biggest issue is that it was soda! Soda once dries will still leave residue that may still short out the device even when dried. You really need to get the sugary residue cleaned from the device. This will require disassembly and some distilled alcohol. Then you will need to let it dry again!

Hopefully your device can recover! It is showing signs of life which is good but you are not out of the woods yet

Mine was terrible... Yesterday it fell prom my pants into a toilet bowl... and it wasn't flushed... It was horrible... but I had to get it out of there pulled the battery and cleaned the exterior and all parts, then used the hand blower drier, then went to dad's house and continued drying it and cleaning it with disinfecting wipes.. I left it in my car for a few hours in the heat... I tried to call the insurance company but while I was doing that it turned on.

Now the problem I have is that the wifi is not working. And I use a lot in my house the wifi calling... So... I might have to call the insurance, but at 125 bucks it is not easy!!!

There are some reputable companies that sell phones off ebay. I wonder what the rate is on your phone?

Hi guys, my 8520 is finally back to life. I tried to follow ezrunner's instructions to disassemble and using some distilled alcohol. I googled everything and gather enough information before doing the disassembly. My device before was just sitting on a cup of uncooked rice for 3 days already and decided to open it up to see what's inside. Lots of soda particles underneath the keypad, and the ribbon that is connecting to its lcd is just wet, the rice didn't work for me I believe. I took all the parts apart, use some alcohol to clean everything and use a blow drier to dry it up,

All is working fine so far, bluetooth, camera, speakers, I can make calls and can use wifi without any hassle, keypad is as good as new, lol. Thanks for the help guys, hope there will be no any future defects that may arise.
