Default Am I using WiFi?

Please Login to Remove!

(Sorry if this is in the wrong place!)

Having received my 8520 last Thursday, I love it. However, one thing is bugging me, Am I using WiFi?

For example, when using the facebook app or checking my email, I make sure the white WiFi Icon is on. However, when I go into status and type "BUYR" my data has increased.

I downloaded mini monitor because this apparently only recognises GPRS data usage, but when I was browsing mini monitor was recording the data (Even when the white icon was on)

Sorry if this sounds retarded, I'm just on a 1GB data limit, so I'm trying to use WiFI in the house to limit my data usage.

Thanks, Sybilline.

You could almost never use 1GB in a month.
Blackberries compress data like no other smartphone.

To be sure you're using wi-fi, turning off the mobile network is advised.
To see which connection your using in the browser press U to toggle the top bar.
To make sure it always uses wi-fi, change it to the Hotspot Browser, under Options - advanced - browser configuration - top option.

I changed it to hotspot, and it says I'm using wifi when using the blackberry browser

Does the data counter in status go up even when using wifi?

And could you recommend a free data usage monitor?

No idea. [wasn't aware of the command]
Wi-fi is a data service so perhaps.

Don't know any, google search is your best bet.

Well, as I said, you'll realy never use that much, but wi-fi is a faster connection at least.
