Moved to the 8500 section and edited the title.

Cannot be done on a BB without a 3rd party software package. Check BB App World for Zebrost Phone Book section or Google

Download "SMS Contact" from the App World. It adds an entry into your main menu which says 'Send as SMS'. Problem solved.
