Default Curve 8530: VerifyError on everything. Please Help.

So I have Curve 8530 and lately, nearly every app I download from AppWorld can't load due to a VerifyError. Today, for testing reasons, I downloaded 10 apps that I wanted to try and only 2 of them worked. The rest gave me this error:

I don't know the error or what triggers it -- you can google, of course -- but when you "rebooted" did you do a battery pull with the power on, and wait at least 30 seconds? If not, do it properly, and then try again.

I did not wait that long after the battery pull. I will do so and post the results.

I just did the battery pull and waited at least 30 seconds. It still has the problem.

Did some looking around. Lot's of questions about it with few responses. The only successes I see are in the vain of wipe and then upgrade/downgrad/reinstall the OS. Perhaps that's what you found as well.

If it was one or two apps and minor league apps I would lean to blaming the app. But sounds like the issue is with you.

I would be tempted to wipe the device with JL_CMDER and start over if it were me. You could try some intermediate steps like doing a security wipe and deleting all third-party apps, switching to stock theme, and those sorts of measures, but my gut is you'll end up wiping the OS and resinstalling it.

If you don't know about JL_CMDER go to blackberryforums.com and read the two articles. Use that to wipe the device software off the handset. That will leave you with 507 error. Reinstall your OS or upgrade if one is available.

And do a full backup before you do anything.

There's an article at blackberryfaq.com on how to back up third-party apps.

BBSAK (google it) has a feature for backing up third-party apps as well.

That's what I wound up having to do on my 9700 running 5.0.0.7something. Nothing else worked.

I ran into this problem and found a different solution.

I rarely connect my device to my computer, so I went ahead and did so in order to take a full backup of my device. While examining the installed applications on the device, it looked like a remote update of the BB OS that I installed several months ago may have not completed properly as it showed "Pending Update". So I figured I'd take a shot at allowing the desktop manager to "Update" my applications and see if that might clear up this "VerifyError" issue that had developed.

It took at least 30 minutes for the process to complete and once it did, voila! Everything works perfectly now. Several apps that had stopped working are once again running smoothly.

I suspect an often overlooked aspect of installing or removing apps on a BlackBerry is that you shouldn't install or uninstall multiple apps without rebooting the device after each one, especially if prompted to do so. At least in my case, that appears to be a possible cause for how my device got into the "VerifyError" situation in the first place.
