Default OS: 8700 4.2.1.180/4.2.1.108 (TMobile Europe) - 10-21-2007, 12:22 PM

This OS can be loaded on ANY carrier's GSM 8700 Blackberry.

Package Version: 4.2.1.180
App Version: 4.2.1.108
Platform: 2.3.0.86

File Name: 8700M_PBr4[1].2.1_rel180_PL2.3.0.86_A4.2.1.108.exe

Direct links to download (Release Notes Included):

TMobile Europe

To get to the download, click on the UK flag. Then click on Free download area. Then click on Devices. Then click on RIM devices.

Instructions for installing:

This OS will work on any GSM/GPRS/EDGE 8700c/g/v/f/r
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2 and can be downloaded from the link above or Click Here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Don't know how much difference there will be in 107 to 108 but there are release notes there as well as a list of known issues.

I would just add that if you're running device code on your device that's not officially been released by your carrier you're Straight out of luck in the event of any service issues, as they didn't supply it they probably wont support it...

I'm trying to read the release files as listed on this url but it wants to save the file as a "do file".

Blackberry

Any thoughts on how I can view it? I'm running .107 now.

Thanks.

@ bertiebassett: i know, but swisscom doesn't really support for a "normal customer" anyway - they want to charge a fortune each month.. and the software version on their site is 4.2.1.94.. so i decided to take the risk. it brought me internet and MMS which didn't work before so it was worth risking
i'll change to orange in a few weeks and get a "real working BB" by then.

Can anyone tell me where the OS 4.2.1.rel180 can be found?

Does this version support Chinese character?
Does it fix the "low volume of ring tone" issue?

Wow!, this has been some time in the making for t-mobile uk/eu !?
About time. I'd expect very little problems with this release as it has been through very strict quality controls ;)
Anyway I have been running a 4.2 release for a while, could not wait for the official one. It is 4.2.1.96.
Since I upgraded to that some months ago from 4.1 I noticed lots of crashes with Google Talk? Anybody else notice this?
Often it would crash out with a Sighup error of some sort, other times it would start typing my sent messages backwards and in upper case! Very spooky.
Exiting the gtalk app and logging in again fixed it but I had none of these issues with 4.1.

Anybody noticed this? Or how is gtalk performing on this 4.2 version?

Many thanks
Mike

Upgraded BlackBerry 8700R running v4.2.1.107 (Platform 2.3.0.84).
Since this is my backup unit, I may not really notice any changes.

No Issues Noted, flawless upgrade.
Total Installation Time: 38 minutes

Don't know anything about 8700 except that upgrade was succesfull

1. Not sure why profiles wouldn't be accessible. That's a new one. I'd try pulling the battery and rebooting the device.

2. Unlock has changed. You can no longer simply push the trackwheel to unlock. Just the way it is and can't be changed. Sorry.

I have tried over and over to install the 4.2 OS on the BB. I have downloaded the file 8700M_PBr4[1].2.1_rel108_PL2.3.0.59_A4.2.1.66_Telefonica_Venezu ela. I installed it and open the desktop manager but nothing happens. I opened the App loader and nothing happens. I don´t get that upgrade option that you should get when opening the desktop manager after the installation. Please let me know what I can do. Thanks

rcagu335, please don't double post your problems. JSanders answered your question here:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tml#post728544

You likely need to delete the vendor.xml file which the first post of this thread and the one you posted in earlier instruct you to do. Good luck.
