Start a conversation, and you should find "Send Voice Note..." in the menu. If not, make sure that the v4.2.1 of the BlackBerry Messenger app was installed. For what ever reason, it was not installed on my device during the initial upgrade -- it took a subsequent launch of the Application Loader with the Desktop Manager to update the app correctly.

Thanks so much. So there's no way to create a voice memo rather than a voice message to be forwarded?

Purchase VR+ from SHAPE Services -- there is a 7-day trial available.

Default 4.2 Junk - 11-05-2007, 10:22 PM

Ok, im all for new upgrades and such, im a former 8830 Verizon user that has switched back to the 8703e because i hated the trackball, it just sucked especially when trying to drive and navigate...

I had 4.1 on my 8703e and life was great, i saw a post about 4.2 and saw that it gave you the ability to seperate the sms and the messages, something the 8830 did and i liked alot so i downloaded it and installed it.

I know there are problaby many improvements but this is the main reason i dont want this version is because there are no themes available for it yet except the defaults...

For example...

The default VZW theme, the same one you get when you originally buy the phone, if you set it to seperate sms/message areas it puts the SMS in a Applications folder. I dont know about you but every time i get a txt message i dont want to have to click into a subfolder to view a text, that should be on the main screen. Is there a way to get that on the main screen without having to use the horrid Dimension theme? With the Dimension screen the icons all appear on the main screen but that theme is just awful, fuzzy small icons, annoying colors etc..

Where can i download version 4.1 software for Verizon, there site only has the updated 4.2?

Are there themes out for the 4.2 that are decent?

Thanks

Tommy

I enabled the O2 theme -- it is included in the RIM OS v4.2.1 release, but it is vendor locked. Instructions to enable it (or others) can be found at:

How to Add Vendor Locked Themes - BlackBerryFAQ

The O2 theme does not have the nested folders of the Verizon theme, you can separate SMS from e-mail messages, and it looks much better IMO than the BB Dimension themes. You can change the default background and fonts to your liking -- I reverted to BBCondensed 8 Bold as is the default for the Verizon theme, which is easy to read.

You could have enabled Zen in the 4.1 and get the SMS separated too. I prefer 4.2 though.

Not dumb but has been covered a few times in this thread. Yes it will work, you just have to delete the vender file and then it will load.

1. Go to Options >Screen/Keyboard and set Coverage Indicator to On.

2. Highlight the icon to move and then hit alt+trackwheel and select Move Icon or Hide icon.

You can also hold the "alt" key down and click the scroll wheel to hide and move icons.

Upgraded my Sprint 8703e yesterday and everything is working just fine. It may be a tiny bit slower, but not enough to bother me.

I was able to update my Sprint 8703e but I can't figure out how to re-enable the GPS, I don't have that "Internal" option under Options > Advanced Settings > GPS. I only have Location ON and OFF.

I upgraded mine today. The GPS isn't working with BB Maps despite it being "ON". That's the only thing that doesn't work right. The error I get is:

"uncaught exception: net.rim.device.api.i18n. missingResourceException"

Default BlackBerry Browser Missing after O/S upgrade - 11-06-2007, 10:55 PM

After upgrading my VZW 8703e to 4.2 O/S, I had to reactivate on my company's BES server. It's been 48 hours since the upgrade & activation completed, and the BlackBerry Browser icon has still not shown up. I recall that when I first activated on the BES server it took 12-24 hours for it to appear. However, this time it's not there. As a side note, the regular Browser icon is there. Any help on getting this icon to appear?

I noticed the same thing...and before I upgraded, the only way I could access my companys intranet was witht he BBBrowser.

So just for kicks I tried it with the other browser.....and it worked.

I'm wondering if they've combined them?

EDIT: OK...so I just went and checked the bookmarks (which I rarely use)...and YES....the bookmarks from both browsers are now combined in the one browser.

if you need to switch between browsers when you hit Go To: click the menu and there is a change browser option and you can pick the one you want to use, as long as your IT policy isn't blocking any.

I upgraded my Bell Mobility 8703e to the Verizon 4.2.1 OS and everything works well. It took about 45mins to complete.

Anyone know what the latest version of Blackberry maps is? I'm about to download 1.1.32 but I thought there was a newer version?

I have v1.1.35 after the OS v4.2.1.106 upgrade. Try invoking the Applications Loader within the Desktop Manager again -- most likely it will automatically prompt to update BB Maps.

I had 1.1.35 after the 4.2.1 upgrade but it was missing the option for internal gps support. When I grab the latest version online, 1.1.32 is the latest that gets loaded.

I've been using Citibank's Citi Mobile app on my Blackberry up until now. It worked quite well on my 8703e (VZW) under OS 4.1. When I upgraded to 4.2, I began getting the dreaded "freeze up".

Anyone else?

I haven't used that particular application, but you may wish to check for a OS v4.2.x version of the app. Even if there is not one, try re-installing it, which has solved issues with a couple of third-party apps for me.

I got bPhone today and the Dimension Today working on 4.2.1 for the 8703e.

I downloaded the latest build of 8700 software from T-Mobile Europe.
Blackberry
(Direct Link doesn't work) :(

Select: UK, Free Download Area, Devices, RIM Devices, 8700 4.2.1 rel 180, then 8700M_PBr4[1].2.1_rel180_PL2.3.0.86_A4.2.1.108.exe.

Take the net_rim_theme_bbdimension_today_320x240_w.cod from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.2.1.108_P2.3.0.86\Java and copy it to a different location (I used my desktop because I was lazy).

Use javaloader to load it to your device:
JavaLoader.exe -u load net_rim_theme_bb_dimension_today_320x240.cod

My device rebooted automatically after the load. Upon the OS loading, I now have the today theme as an option, and bPhone can be activated.

I have javaloader.exe since I have the JDE installed for Blackberry development, but I know that I've seen it online by itself.

me too just be careful when you run the app loader it will delete the today file and you have to reload it so if you want other today themes load them first. Then run the javaloader and then you can use the today themes on your device

So my new question is.........what about some of the custom themes that have been made? Will those be useable or not? Are we able to create our own with Plazmic and those work?

I have to wait till later today to try the today theme, glad people are getting it to work though, thanks Kormac!!

Yes, followed them exactly. Both files are in the same location, I get no errors that it cannot find the Javaloader or the .cod files, it just gives that error, tried redownloading thinking maybe the file was corrupt, and will try again.

So are you saying you didn't reload 4.2 as Kormac did? You just installed the theme with the cod file and javaloader?

Removing the modules again and will try once more.
