Sounds like you answered your own question. I asked one of my co-workers about this yesterday and he confirmed that there is only 1 icon. I think you can go into your settings and choose which is your default browser.

What would the unified browser auto sync with? IE bookmarks?

I'm having problems with CICAL operation. Invites, etc. don't work as they should on the 4.2.1.106 OS.

I want to wipe the BB and reload everything. How do I do that without losing what I have???

Before you do that, did you try resending the service books? That's what was needed on mine before ICAL support worked properly.

Yes, and I also fixed the issue of the Internet (not the BlackBerry) browser not working. I called my service provider and had them resend their Service Books. Now the browser works the way it is intended, in a way that it automatically detects what site I'm going to, i.e. a site behind my company's firewall or a site on the Internet and then uses the appropriate browser. It works well.

Wiping will "wipe" your BB clean of all data, Enterprise Activation status included.

For whatever reason, BlackBerry Maps does not always upgrade during the initial installation if it had been previously been installed. Have you accepted the upgrade?

4.1 works smoothy for me. It sounds like there are glitches in 4.2 (the unlock glitch would drive me nuts).

Are there any KILLER features in 4.2 that I just gotta have?

Depends. Calendar invite/accept is one I like. Works with Lotus Note and Outlook but not with Google/Hotmail online calendars.

I've noticed an enormous delay when attempting to insert a symbol while texting. Has anyone else experienced this?

Is there a way to silence the tone portion of your alerts after you receive a email or text message? On 4.1 I was able to do this by scrolling the trackwheel, but when I do this now on 4.2, the tone just keeps playing.

I am loving the OS 4.2 upgrade, so far, I haven't had any other issues besides the small quirk mentioned above.

Ok, so I was in the middle of upgrading to 4.2 when my PC decided to be stupid and restart itself...I was watching TV, and turned around to see it booting back up. My Blackberry was on an whitescreen with the hourglass. Several pulls of the battery later, it finally moved on to a new hourglass, and the Desktop Manager started asking for the PIN, so I let it sit. Then, the Blackberry went through the setup screens, which I followed. Got in, and found most of my 3rd party apps on it...however, NO CONTACTS OR MESSAGES OF ANY KIND. My PC must have restarted while loading 3rd party apps, but before restoring data...so...is there any way to find the backup on the PC and restore my data?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Welcome to the forums.

Yes, your loader process should have created a backup called "loaderbackup-(2007-11-12).ipd" Search for it on your computer. Then use the restore feature in Desktop Manager to restore it to the BB.

Couldn't find it...it didn't find anything with loaderbackup in the file name, nor anything with the .ipd extension...

When you started the upgrade process it should have taken you to a screen where it asked if you wanted to backup and restore your data. It's usually checked by default. Did you change it?

Nope...made sure it was checked.

Probably should say that I had to abort the installation once before, because it was hanging while trying to back up one of my themes. So I killed the app loader process, unplugged my phone, deleted those themes, and then tried the app loader again and it went fine. Then the PC restart happened...

Kind of unrelated, I can't find the browser on my today screen...any thoughts on that?

Ooh...found it!!! It was in my Documents folder...but I can't seem to restore it. I click on Backup and Restore in the Desktop Manager, and both the Backup and Restore buttons are disabled...?

EDIT: would help to be connected... oops...

I upgraded the v4.1 OS on my Sprint PCS 8703e to v4.2 two days ago. Since then I have been unable to recieve email from my Gmail account. I have two other email accounts configured on my blackberry that have continued to work without a problem. I am not using BES and I have deleted and reconfigured the Gmail account and sent service books to my phone twice. I receive notification via email that the account was properly configured but I never receive any push email. I have gone so far as to call Sprint and they walked me thru a device reset. Has anyone else experienced this problem or can atleast give me an avenue of approach to resolve this issue. Everything else about the version upgrade is flawless. I am starting to wonder if it is something on Gmails end.

Just a shot in the dark, but did you go back to the gmail account online and verify that the POP setting was on? I upgraded my 8703e to 4.2 and Gmail worked fine. I have Gmail set for POP access and have an email account on BIS pulling the email. Works flawlessly and hits my BB virtualy the same time it hits gmail.

Yes, made sure that the pop setting was highlighted. I have no idea what is going on. may just start forwarding my Gmail to one of my other functioning email accounts.

Default Wonderfull Upgrade evaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!! - 11-13-2007, 08:09 PM

I have an 8703e with Sprint and I upgraded the OS to 4.2 and it works flawlessly. But I found something that my Mac bretrhen will love: I was able to use the bluetooth connection to connect my old but trusty G4 iBook to the internet!!! In fact I am connected now and sending this over that connection!!! I love it!!!

Unhappy Did I brick my phone?! - 11-16-2007, 09:33 AM

So I tried to install the 4.2 update, and after the first restart, it said it couldn't reconnect to the device and had to abort the operation. Now my BB just has a white screen. In the center is a window with shapes in it with a "no" sign over it. Under this symbol is the number 507. The device manager doesn't seem to detect my BB being connected anymore, so I can't try to restart the whole operation. Have I just bricked my phone?!

EDIT: Ok, crisis averted, I think. Apparently my laptop decided that it would be a good time to turn off the USB port to save power right in the middle of the update process. Changing the option to turn off USB ports let the computer see my BB again, so now I'm going through the process all over. Good thing I backed up all my data...

Hey I did this upgrade today. I have Sprint also and I have to say, this upgrade is WONDERFUL!!! I love the new layout, the new battery/antenna icons, the new 'media' option, the new time/date, the way calls are made and identified, etc. I love this new OS!! It's like a new phone!

How do I get all of my email messages on one screen again? I have 6 email accounts, and when I press the side key for messages, I only see them for 1 of my accounts there.

Upgraded today on my Sprint BB. No problems, BIS and BES re-activated automatically. The mute button will now actually mute an incoming call. Other nice features. Worth the time to upgrade. Easy!

I don't have an option to turn off mail receipts (Messages/Options/Email Settings or anywhere else) in 4.2.

Where is it supposed to be? All the receipts arriving are annoying.
