Default 8703e wont shut down - 11-20-2007, 07:03 PM

When I try to shut down my 8703e it follows the usual routine but then just sits on the Verizon wireless screen and freezes that way, I've left it over night before to see if it will work itself out but it just stays that way until the battery dies. the only way to unfreeze it is to remove the battery. It doesn't do it all the time and I cant seem to recognize a pattern so it's nearly impossible to do it on command to help understand what the problem is. has any one else had this issue??

Don't know answer, but wonder what aftermarket apps and/or themes you have installed, and if you've looked at that.

Well, I don't have a clue. I really expected you to say you installed a third party theme recently.

The photo is wallpaper, right? Is your theme one of the native versions that came with the handheld OS?

Have you gone to the ribbon to see what's running and closed whatever you can. Some blackberry things are running all the time, of course, but close what ever will close, and then try powering off. Give that a try, if you haven't already.

I haven't how do you access the Ribbon? Secondly, it doesn't happen all the time or even consistenly, by the time I see it's happening it's already frozen.

Hold the alt key, then press the esc/back button on the right below the wheel, then use scroll wheel to scroll while holding alt key.

That's my only idea: Experiment. See if there is any pattern based on what is left running when you power off. It's a total SWAG, of course...May be something totally different. But experimentation will at least rule out this possibility.

when it hangs pull the battery out for 15 seconds and that will do a hard reset. Should clear things up. My 8703e hangs at start up sometimes I just pull the battery and boom it works again

He's pulling the battery when it happens..... He's trying to figure out why it is happening, and correct it. I don't have any ideas. Is this something the OP is just going to have to live with?

Please list every application you have installed and every theme.
Lets do a process of elimination and see whats going on.

I had the same problem. I reinstalled the OS (using the Repair option). Then pulled the battery and have not had the problem since. I run over 20 3rd party apps, so that is not the issue. An primary OS file is corrupted (don't know which one, nor do I care unless this fix stops working.)
