This OS will work on any 8707
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2 and can be downloaded from the link above or Click Here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

The new updates are great. Built-in spell check, new media layout!!

I have upgrade and meet some bugs:
-Media with new skin but it can not refresh list when i deleted file.
-Share memory only max 20MB but 4.2.1.173 i have max 30MB
-The message "Data refured.." hide (But 4.2.1.173 is same)
-It is slower than 4.2.1.173
-At the recieve phone two button not the center. GOOD
Now i reuse 4.2.1.173

Loved the spell checker, even though it could not resolve "tets" to "test" nevertheless it helped to spot typo

I installed 4.2.2.302 TOO, and solved the bugs abt "Send Read Receipts". (last time, BB will send receipt, but my setting is off)

I encountered a device hang this morning. need to take out battery to force reset.

anyone else has encounter this?

Finally after 2! years of waiting I can transfer some midis and jpgs from Desktop Manager to my 500€! BB without to pay MORE for downloads or additional programs. Please tel me that I'm right, that this is the English firmware update. Thanks.

I have the simplest question in all parallel universes for you 7 000 000 000+ people: How oh! how I'm going to update my 8707v firmware from v0.01beta to v4.2 to transfer a midi file of 0.2nanobytes? If not available yet, when oh! when it's going to be? I hope before Armageddon comes. Thank you God. Amen.

How can I transfer a MIDI file from my hard drive to my 8707v trough the Desktop Manager trough the Media Manger trough the USB? Thank you in advance.

Your 8707 does not have a Media Card, you can't transfer it that way.

Upload your midi file to website, and download it from the BB browser.

Just wanted to update my new 8707v and saw that Vodafone UK's version is different.

You are correct, this Vodafone release is the newest and most up-to-date.
