I just go a 8700g, and i heard i can transfer some my old mp3 ring tones to the 8700 via my USB . The files r on my computer.. if that is true what program can i use to tranfer

You need OS 4.2.x.xxx on your 8700g in order to transfer them. You can check by going to Options >About and check your OS version.
Then you'll need Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 with Roxio Media Manager to transfer the files. You'll be limited to 2.86 MB per file. Don't load too many of those as the 8700 doesn't have much memory space.
my OS is 4.1.0.346 i am new to this, so i went to download Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 with Roxio Media Manager but i didn't see the Roxio manager? thanks for replying...
Once that's installed you'll need to download and install on your PC the OS installation package for 4.2 for your device. You can find those downloads here:
Also, at the top of the 8700 forum there should be a sticky with the latest version of the software for the 8700. Read through that and download that software if you desire.

SHort version:
You need two pieces of software: Desktop Manager (use v4.2) and the HANDHELD OS for you 8700. Download v4.2 of the handheld OS for the 8700 to your PC.
Execute the program you just downloaded to install the Handheld OS to your PC
Locate and delete vendor.XML on your PC C: drive
Start Desktop Manager - it will upgrade your 8700.
GIVE IT SOME TIME - the upgrade can take 30-45 minutes.
You should have a Media Manager on your Desktop Manager; it can move ringtones to the 8700.
Hello all i have a 8700g with a OS 4.1... I would like to transfer a shorten MP3 ring tone to me phone.. I have downloaded Blackberry Desktop Manager and i went into Media Manager, but I don't know how to get the songs to my phone?? please help.. OH i am VERY new to this so please step by step.. please .... Thanks in advance... also i see i need to transfer OS 4.2.. to my Blackberry? if that is the case how to i do that ..
What you need to do is go to www.blackberryfaq.com and find the link that talks about upgrading your OS on your handheld. There are step by step instructions in there. It is quite an easy thing to do. You can also find the latest versions of the OS at that site too. The one that I use is Tmobile USA v4.2.1.107 and it runs very well on my 8700g. Good luck.

You can't actually save the ringtone if you email the .mp3 file to yourself. You will have to email a link to the file on a hosting site. I send my ringtones to my webspace provided by my isp and then navigate my BB broswer to that space and download the ringtone....Is there a way to save from an email? I've never been able to.
