Default Help with 8707G...please - 12-27-2007, 11:03 PM

I'm going to Japan for a little bit. I'm on T-mobile and use a 8320 here. I saw a locked 8707G on Ebay. Two questions:

Where's the best place to go to unlock it?

Will I be able to put my sim card in it - make sure I have International and use it normally? (and expensively)

Personally, I'd just pick up a small wifi device to use in your hotel room, like the Apple airport express and just use your 8320 on wifi and then you're also capable of making toll free calls back to the USA. You're not going to have BB all the time but wifi is available all over Japan. It will save you having to spend the bucks on the 8707.

If you decide to purchase check out GSMPhoneSource.com. Good guy and fast service.

You can find unlock services on ebay as well, I did that and am using the 8707 here in Korea / Japan just fine. You dont' need to send them the blackberry or anything like that, just give them a code from your blackberry and after a couple of days they will give you an unlock code. Enjoy!

Make sure you read the FAQ on buying a used device on ebay. There are several pitfalls and if this is an 8707g not available in the US, you could have even more trouble if things aren't right, such as resetting the PIN and IMEI, removing IT policies, or if the device was reported as lost or stolen.

Buying a used BB isn't like buyin a used cell phone.
