What is the difference between Turn Off / Full Power Off. I have Auto On / Off Enabled but my 8700c didn't turn on this morning even though i have weekends enabled. Does it have anything to do with which OFF i picked?

If you turn off, alarms, calendar and task alerts, etc. will still activate. If you do full power off, the bb is absolutely positively all power off. Apparently the auto on/off is deactivated in full power off, as well.

I know you are teasing, but this is like deja vu all over again.

I always turn off my 8700 with the button when I'm flying. I never have done it via the screen icon. So just the other day a buddy comes barging into my office demanding I explain this to him. "What the heck are you talking about," I ask. So I look, and by golly there is Turn Off and Full Power Off. I don't have an answer. So I test. And what do you know? Full Power Off is full power off and turn off is turn off as if the user did it with the button.

Yes, I am teasing. I never turn mine off....that was the joke.

Anyway, yes, full power off bypasses the alarms that will turn on the device and sound. i.e. If you have the alarm clock set, it will turn on the device to sound the alarm unless you do full power off.

You said you "never turn yours off". Are you a pilot? Or if not do you fly?

I am not completely sure what is required when the airlines tell you to turn off the phones when they shut the door. I see people working on their BB's seated near me. I have turned off the wireless and left the BB on and while expecting it, I have never been challenged by an attendant.

I'd like clarification of what is "off" for the purpose of being on an airliner.

I fly corporate and we never ask our people to turn off their phones. I even leave mine on. On longer trips I turn the wireless radio off so I don't run my battery down.

For the airlines, you need to turn off the wireless radio and then turn the device off until they tell you you can turn electronic devices back on. Then once you turn it on, you have to leave the wireless radio off (airplane mode.)

Also, MikeyLikesIt, FYI, there has been discussion before about some attendants not understanding/knowing blackberrys and telling people to turn them off even when passengers are being allowed to use electronic devices. Just be aware, and best advice is don't try and educate the attendant.

i just turnt he wireless off so it no longer transmits and leave the device in standby until we are at cruising altitude. after that i just use the mp3 player or read/respond to emails and let them sit in que until its safe to turn on the wireless

if i put have my Auto On /Off enabled on my 8700c and i am still on the phone at the time it is suppose to turn off will it turn off or just keep me on the phone?

Don't know. But it should be easy enough to test and find out.

Sorry I still don't understand the difference between using the on/off button on the top of the bb vs using the on/off icon.

And how do I turn the wireless radio off while I am on the plane? Is it in Option/Mobile Network then turn "data service" off? Is it the same place where I want to stop the bb receiving data when I am abroad?

the 8830 doesn't have an on/ off button on the top of the blackberry. the On/Off button for the 8830 would be Holding down the hang up button.

you can turn off data service by going to Manage Connections option.

As for turning radio off on a plan that is a whole different story. i don't know about that one

There is no difference between using the icon to turn off the device or powering it off with the power button (on top on some devices and on the end key on others.)

The radio is turned off and on via icon on screen. It is probably labeled turn wireless of or turn wireless on, depending on the status at the time.

I no longer seem to get prompted for that. I selected the on/off icon and now it just powers off until (Xxx time) and I don't get prompted for a full power off. Does anyone have an idea why it's doing this?

Closest thread I could find to the problem I've been having... hopefully somebody might be able to shed a bit of light for me.

When I my 8330 automatically wakes up each morning, all connections (Mobile Network and Bluetooth) are automatically in the off mode. So each day I have to remember to manually turn the mobile network back on (which kind of defeats the purpose of setting the device to automatically wake up).

Has anybody else run into this issue, and if so, any luck getting the network to turn on with the device? Thanks for the help in advance!
