Default Anyone have problems with the Auto Backlight option? - 02-22-2008, 07:32 PM

I just got a new 8700g and it doesn't seem to matter whether I turn that option on or off it always adjusts the backlight to the current lighting conditions. I've tried a hard reset, data wipe and an OS upgrade and it still does it.

Doesn't make sense that it would be a hardware problem but at this point it can't be a software problem unless its a known issue....

I have this issue also and have never found a way to prevent it. It seems to correct itself for a while but I cannot find a reason for it to get flacky again.
I would suspect a basic software bug.

Yes, your not the only one. This issue is so common with the 8700. I have to tell many of our users to shut off the automatic backlight and this will curb the 8700 to shut off the light for awhile but will not cure it 100%.

Some of our users have challanged for warranty replacement if the device is within the 1 year warranty period...

I had two and they both had backlight issues.

I now ignore it also.

The symptom does not always show up immediately but will show up after some time and not on all devices. I am not sure about a hard reboot if it affects this and remedies the issue since I use an 8310 and never had the 8700. (I was on Nextel with a 7520 and went to an AT&T 8800 then 8310)

We have about 2k users supported on two bes boxes and a majority of them are on the 8700 platform. Some users just set the backlight to shut off automatic backlight and ignore the issue. Some of our users are more critical of this issue and will want a new phone. So, as you deal with the issue you can see that it does not alway show itself all the time. I usually can only tell the customer to shut off the automatic backlight.

I am replacing an 8700 on Monday just for this reason on one of our upper managers.

Have any of you noticed if you hard reboot does the symptom go away for awhile?

H.

A reboot does but not always for the same length of time.
