Default OS: 8700 4.2.1.192/4.2.1.114 Hutchison - 02-25-2008, 03:08 PM

GSM Version of 8700 c/f/g/r/v ONLY

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.192 (English/Chinese)

Package Version: 4.2.1.192
Consisting of:
• Applications: 4.2.1.114
• Software Platform: 2.3.0.88
• File name: 8700C_PBr4.2.1_rel192_PL2.3.0.88_A4.2.1.114_Hutchi son.exe
• File size: 73.36MB

Link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...2BAA6EBC8B872D and select 8700g from the list

Instructions for installing:

This OS will work on any GSM/GPRS/EDGE 8700c/g/v/f/r
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find the previous version of this OS, click here

P.S. I used John's post as template to format this post. Thanks.

The OS for 8700 seems newer than the one for 8800 (4.2.1.179). hmmmm.... what's going on RIM?

Should the 8800 always have the latest and greatest OS?

Perhaps, the Network Operators are starting too roll out some final 4.2.1 releases before they get 4.5 into the labs...

So what? Since we don't ever get release notes from the carriers, it is impossible to say what's changed or is new...

Yeaup "English" is included although it only says "Chinese". I just finished installing it on my trusty 8700c...I can also confirm that the ringer volume is the same as the "Hutchison" OS I was using before this update...not as loud as 4.1xx but ok for now. Hopefully 4.5xx will fix this.

This has nothing to do with BIS; BIS is serviced / provided by your carrier regardless of the HH OS on your device.

The first issue sounds like a memory issue to me. the only time my 8700g has ever reset itself was when i had a ton of e-mails and I was running a bunch of apps and surfing.

If you mean sounds as in different ringers and tones, open up the sound profiles, go to "advanced" at the very bottom of the list, click the sound profile you wish to edit, then select "edit" from the options.

Mine reboots as well with 4.2.1 installed. It appears to reboot when playing any sound file - including a ring. I had to revert back to 4.1 as I could not resolve the reboot issue.

I have no idea why it happens. All that I know is that my 8700r works flawlessly with 4.1

Hmm. Apparently I haven't upgraded in forever.

I'm presently running 4.1.0.346

Any major changes? I'm not having any issues - should I upgrade or just keep it?

And if you recommend upgrade, do I need to go in order of upgrades, or can I just jump into this one?

After I do the installation of the download, desktop manager doesn't prompt me to apply the update. I have version 4.3 of the desktop software. Is there any way to force the install, instead of waiting for desktop manager to ask about doing it? Thanks!

After you do the download; you run the install, delete vendor.xml, and then you can just launch the Application Loader (loader.exe).

Did you not delete vendor.xml?

needalittlehelp - Welcome to BBF and sorry you're having troubles. You should post your issue in your own thread describing the problem that you're having in detail and what you have already done. Do you have an appropriate plan / etc? please don't reply here but rather start your own thread.

Hi!! I just recovered my device from a horrible crash :( and the OS version is a really old one, should I install the one that you are posting here? or just leave my poor device with the one the carrier has (4.1 I guess) if so I'm downloading the hutchinson file anyway but another question i have is, why do i have to erase the vendor.xml file??

there is no arabic fonts support natively in this OS. So just use the latest Arabic version OS (if there is one) or install one of arabic font files to enable it. Search around for the font file thread.

Erasing vendor.xml will allow you to load other carriers' OS on your BB. OS 4.2 change dramatically in the area of UI, functionality and stability compared to 4.1. However, not everyone loves 4.2 and some of them prefer 4.1 instead, because they are so used to 4.1. So you have to try it yourself.

Wow, this OS should be AVOIDED by North American 8700 users. I have an 8700g, and known a few people with an 8700r who updated to this release and have had nothing but problems. I updated to try and solve my sound issue from 4.2.1.101 to 4.2.1.114, and I'm getting Error 523 Application Error every so often and I NEVER used to. I think this 'Chinese' release should not be used with NA 8700's. My advise to those in North America - AVOID.

Unhappy 8700g media player - 05-02-2008, 11:25 PM

yes there is a playback media but it is a download not stream, bbtv.ca & mymovy.com.

if you have a 8700g and have downloaded the 4.2.1 software you must remove the 4.1 after you down load the software, you must do a wipe handheld, removing the 4.1 from the handheld, close the desktop manager, download 4.2 and then load it to your handheld, do not pick the chinese options, unless your chinese, there are other options available, it should be the only software on the handheld, you need the deck top software 4.2.2 or higher for it to work, the Chinese version will work, removing vender xml will work but for all those other problems they will all go away & the system will run smoothly and PS, change your emulation to microsoft IE.
