Lightbulb edge vs. EDGE vs. gprs - 04-02-2008, 12:12 PM

I have a BB 8700g (GSM).
I've been using it for the past few weeks and I've noticed that over top of the signal meter I see edge, EDGE, or gprs.

What is the difference?

There are different data capabilities for the phone. You may see EDGE or GPRS, in full capital letters, which means you have full data capabilities (email, internet, phone, text, etc) or you may see edge, gprs, GSM, which means you have phone and text capabilities only, you lose internet and email....

Depending on where you are, which tower you are connected to, you will see different signals. The ones I have listed are the ones I've seen in my area, I think there might be a gsm, but I've never seen it, you may want to check the FAQ page to find out more details, I'm sure that would be in there.
