Default Please Help. Im a new BB user - 04-07-2008, 08:11 AM

I have just become the owner of a BB 8707.

I dloaded the desktop manager version 4.3 and when i connect to my BB and click 'device properties' i get the following:

Model: 8707
Platform Version: 3.2.0.9
Application Version: 4.1.0.378

I have looked in this forum at the top and there is a thread that gives me the link to an OS titled:

'Attention: Latest OS: 8707 4.2.2.302/4.2.2.122 (Singapore Telecom)'

Could you please tell me if this will work on my BB and if it will be in English as it says (chinese) when you open the thread.

many thanks

That OS will work with your BB. It does have english, and you can delete or not load the languages you don't want before it begins to install.

Follow the instructions that are posted in that OS thread, exactly as posted in regard to deleting the vendor.xml file, and you will be fine.

Good luck, and welcome to the BBF.

i have hit a problem. the thread says to do this:

1 Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2 and can be downloaded from the link above or Click Here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

1. i followed point 1 and have the lastest version of Desktop Manager installed which is 4.3

2. i dloaded the file and installed it to my PC

3. i went to C:\program files\research in motion ...

and there is no folder called apploader. there is only 1 folder in 'research in motion' .. a folder called 'blackberry' .. and in that folder there is no file called vendor.xml. the only xml files are:

ascii_tblinfo_1033.xml
configurationupgrade.xml
device_tblinfo_1033.xml
ota_tblinfo_1033.xml

there are also many other files and folders in here

1. DM 4.3 should be ok.

3. then you likely have not done 2. correctly. Did you find the *.exe file you downloaded, double clicked on it and installed it to the PC?

it was definitely installed. when i clicked it again it said i could 'repair' or 'uninstall' which means it was already installed. i clicked repair anyway and it re-installed and exactly the same scenario has occurred as described in my post above.

any ideas ?

So, when you navigate to:
c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
You don't have a file named vendor.xml?
