Default 8700c...is it useable? - 05-06-2008, 02:01 PM

I bought a BB 8700c off eBay and it had a password on it. I tried to contact the seller about it with no luck. So read up on it and found out that after 6 tries, it would wipe the info off the BB and start over. So That's what I did. Now, everytime I try to do something (connect to PC via USB to add apps, start up wireless, etc.) it says "Insert SIM Card". The SIM card is in the BB but it was wiped clean of info. Is there a way I can get server info on the SIM card without contacting Cingular/AT&T? Is there anything I can do with this BB? I have a fone with cingular but it uses a "3G" SIM card, not the "64K Smartchip" SIM card, so I can't swap SIMs. Any help for a BB n00b?

Put the 3G SIM card in. It works. You will get voice and "data connection refused" since you most likely do not had a BB dataplan attached to that SIM.

Why are you so afraid to drop a dime and call the carrier? They need to properly provision it anyway so you are going to have to talk to someone sooner or later.

BB's aren't ordinary cell phones.
