I work for a company that is trying to save operating expenses by turning off data plans on all of the blackberries. Before the data plan was shut off my 8700 would get at least 2 full days of stand by and immediately the day the data was shut off it now is lucky to get a full day. It was a very noticeable transition and i would think if anything it should last longer now that im not using it as much.

Any ideas?

It sounds like your BB is constantly transmitting to the cell towers looking for a connection. I'm not sure how to get it to stop doing that, but I am pretty sure it is the problem. One solution is to pay for the data plan yourself. You might try giving the customer service folks at RIM a call. If there is a fix, they should know it. 73

If the radio connection exists on the device, make sure there is no way it is trying to enable itself. It may be something you can do from your end.

On the 8700, depending on the OS version, you may be able to go to Options >(Mobile)Network > Data Services--set to "Off."

That option doesn't exist on all OS's. You can upgrade to 4.2.1 for your device and get it, though.
