8700g - I think I messed up -
06-24-2008, 11:10 AM
I've had an 8700g for a few months now (company phone), generally a lot happier with it than my pervious Treo (although I wish they'd picked Verizon instead of T-Mobile)
Two issues - one of which I think I did to myself.
This weekend, I finally loaded the Desktop software on my home PC, and now my Outlook Calendar off the VPN doesn't download to the phone over the wireless (i don't cable the phone to my company computer). My guess is that I accidentally "told" the phone it was a BIS system (from reading here I think most corporate accounts are BES) - how do I "undo" that? (or what else could it be?). If I need to lose that software, no problem - it really isn't needed.
Second problem (and I think unrelated to the above as it's been going on for a week longer) - when I delete items from my Outlook, or move them to a folder - they still stay on the phone. I've tried going into EMail Reconciliation, I _think_ all the settings are correct.
Ideas?
Jeff

1. Look at Calendar > Options > General Options > Wireless Sync = Yes.
2. Look at the same for your messages.

Maybe I'm not going to the correct "Options"
From the main screen, highlight the Calendar icon, click the thumbwheel twice, go to Options (click) - no "wireless Sync" listed
For Messages, smae process to get to options - no "Wireless Sync" under general options. Under Email reconciliation - the only option I have is "Delete on" (which is set to Mailbox & Handheld) (could have sworn there were more picks under that tab yesterday!)

OK, on the 8700, I think you are correct, no wireless options.
Have you lost your Service Books on the device? Look at Options > Advanced > Service Books. Do you see your [Desktop] entries there?

Still have Service Books (look - you're educating me!) - which one (s) do I want to look at?

Let me jump in here a sec.... just to confirm, was this device intially connected to your company BES server (corporate BlackBerry server) and was working fine?
Then you installed DM on your home pc, and perhaps selected the option for BIS rather than BES and tried to sync it with your home PC?

I'm thinking that's exactly what I did :(
Although the problem with the emails not removing from the phone was happening before that.

Well, the issue with the emails not removing from the phone is a setting on the device.
First we'll need to fix what happened with the device. Most likely what you need to do is contact your company BES Admin (IT Dept or maybe Helpdesk) and have them 'resend your service books' from the BlackBerry server. That should help with getting things back to normal.
If that doesn't work, they will probably want to wipe your device and redo the activation.
Do you know what version your BES is at work?

Unless there's somewhere on the device that would tell me - no. (BES version)
Is there anywhere eklse on the device I can check? (email issue)

Ok, were you involved in the setup of the device, or did someone else set it up for you and hand it to you? If you were involved, and it originally had to sync with a cable, then you have pre v4.0. If the original setup was wireless, then the BES is v4.0 or higher, and this will be a lot easier.

I wasn't involved in the setup - the device came to me "set up"

Then I would contact whomever set it up for you. They will need to assist in resolving the issues you're having with the service books and such.
As for the original question you had:

You change this on the device under Messages -> Options -> Email Reconcilation. Set the 'Delete On' to "Mailbox & Handheld".

I'll contact IT
I have the email reconciliation set that way now - not working.

That could be due to the other issues your having. If they get you set up again, and it's still not working, let us know.

Thanks folks - IT had me do a full wipe and reload, both problems went away. I'm also to go home, purge the desktop software from my PC and give the CD to Oscar the Wonderwienerdog to chew up

Update to the update - calendar is working, reconciliation is back to NOT working completely.
Device is set to "Mailbox & Handheld" "On" "Mailbox Wins" under "Email Reconciliation"
I know Outlook is "talking" to the device, messages get marked as "read" (envelope changes from orange to blue) - but the deleted ones don't dissapear (nor do the filed ones that I've moved to a folder) (and I have "Hide Filed Messages" set to Yes in the General Options)
Is there a "timing" setting for this? If I hit Reconcile Now, it seems to work - is there a "autoreconcile" I'm not seeing?
(where's my .45 - I can fix this...)

Dont pump lead yet Old Fart. I was as resistant as you were until everything gets set up correctly. Now I love this thing. Feel naked without it. I even have alarms set to tell me when to take my meds.

LOL, I depend on these things way too much. Milady thinks I'm a genius, I can always remember inportant dates, nephew's baseball games, etc - doesn't realize that without the gadget I'm only a moderately intelligent banana

Seems to be working now - I think i'm just not patient enough
Now - on to my search for a voice recorder - one of the few things I miss from my Treo!
