Default Latest OS: 8700 v4.5.0.52 / 4.5.0.37 (includes East Asian Languages) - 07-04-2008, 02:00 PM

GSM Version of 8700 c/f/g/r/v ONLY

This release includes East Asian Languages in addition to English.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.52 (EastAsia)
Package Version: 4.5.0.52
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.37
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
* File name: 8700EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37_V odafone_Dialog_(Sri_Lanka).exe
* File size: 61.12MB

Link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...5D5E7C5356E9FF and select 8700v from the list

Instructions for installing:

This OS will work on any GSM/GPRS/EDGE 8700c/g/v/f/r
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

Same versions as all the other gsm, rel52 4.5.0.37, still would caution Tmo users from loading any .37

I guess now we can finally use the I.T. policy removal proceedure for OS 4.3 or above.

Do any ATT users have missing internet browser problem with this build? Actually, I have this problem with each OS 4.5 beta too. Tried all the steps, such as resending service book, register to network, and etc. Still no luck! I only have wap browser. Thanks.

Please look through the "Beta You Than Me" forum as it's been discussed at great length in there.

I've just downloaded this software update, have to admit what a difference!

However just so i don't look and/or sound like a total spanner, i was under the impression i was downloading the v4.5.0.52 software however the package version is v4.5.0.52 whereas the software installed on my phone is v4.5.0.37

Is that right? I just assumed that because the package i was downloading was named v4.5.0.52 i was expecting the software version on my BB to be v4.5.0.52 as well?

Could some kind soul explain this please? or direct me to a thread which already does please?

I upgraded my phone to the new OS last night. I was finally able to run the jl_cmder program to remove the last remnants of the IT policy from my phone. I too noticed the loss of the BB browser icon. Now I only have the WAP browser (T-Zones) icon. It's not that big of a deal at the moment since I'm not paying for BB services and was never able to get the BB browser to work using the WAP settings.

It is just the way RIM numbers its releases... software and apps version does not have to match.

Any known issues with this release so far? Specifically frying TMo SIM cards? I heard that was an issue for a few of the 4.5 OSes for the 8320. I just upgraded an unlocked 8700c (for TMo) to 4.2.1.114. It is great, but I always like to try the latest official release.

Default Browser is a no go here, too - 07-06-2008, 10:45 PM

Also lost the RIM facebook application.

Tried all the tips outlined here to get the browser back, but no luck.
As much as I like native spellcheck and HTML, I'm going back to 4.2 for the time being.

I'm on AT&T / 8700c.

This doubly stinks since I'm mainly a Mac user and have to dig out the old PC laptop to do these OS operations...

I can't seem to find it. I had upgraded from 4.0 so maybe that's part of it. I'll be hunting in a moment... thanks!

I upgraded my 8700v and now having problems accessing the messages.
When I hit the icon, nothing will happen. I defined a key to access the application, but nothing happens as well. Only when I acces another application and use "switch application" in menu, the messages will eventually appear (take about 1 minute).
Anyone else experienced this?
Some advice?

As noted in the first post:

Release 52, app version .37.

EVERY OS has English included. Yes, it will work on TMo. Read all the notes.

Default Device will not load after failed install - 07-08-2008, 12:02 AM

After trying to load version 4.5 the system took a very long time to initialize. The sysytem will not reboot and I cannot seem to load or get DM to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you read the part where it says that the initial reboot can take 20-30 minutes? Did you let the hourglass spin that long?

Yes, I let the system run until it completed. It asked for a system password which no was applied to the device. I have tried JL_commander and it lets me try to reload, but the system still does not reboot back up?

How does 4.5.0.52 compare to 4.2.196? What are the advantages?

Default Cannot complete install - 07-08-2008, 02:15 PM

Same problem as allankawakami. Have tried lots of things with no luck. Strangely, I am able to reload the old 4.2 OS using the tricks outlined elsewhere (e.g., pull the battery, use app loader, etc.) but I cannot get 4.5 working (using either DM or app loader). Everything wipes and installs, but when it comes time to reboot, it gets stuck on "connecting to device" and times out after about an hour, with an error message that says something about possibly needing a password (but the one time I was prompted for a password, at the beginning of the process, I entered it). This does not seem to prevent an reinstall of the 4.2 system, though. Weird.

After the failed install (which has happened several times), I am left with a blank screen and red light, and need to start from scratch.

EDIT: not sure if this makes a difference, but my BB has a security timeout of 2 minutes, and my IT policy will not let me adjust this.

The update seems to have stabilized my BB. The web browser seems to work better and not crash as much.
