Default 8700G problem please help! - 07-10-2008, 09:06 AM

I just bought an 8700g from ebay and it was described as working perfectly. But when it has arrived it will not switch on, when I first looked at it there was a very faint battery symbol on the screen, but now nothing. I have it plugged in at the wall and the only thing happening is the red light on the top flashing on and off, I have held the on/off button on for ages but it wont switch on, and i havent even got an instruction manual to read. pleease help!

If the battery is below about 10%, let it charge for an hour or so and check back. Leave it be for that time. It may look like nothing is happening and you will only see the slash/battery symbol.

Often, at the low charge, it will need some time to get back to a usable level.

Good luck, and welcome to the BBForums!

The red LED blinking (in this case) is good. We hope.

Check back in an hour and let us know, we'll walk you though whatever.

Hi,

Ive had the phone charging for around 3 hours! and still nothing. The red light flashes intermittently while it is plugged in and weirdly when the battery is in and when it is out?! When the phone is unplugged from wall though the red light stops flashing after a few seconds so i thought maybe the battery wasnt charging? Im clutching at straws really, i have no idea!

So, when you remove the battery and put it back in what happens? Anything?

You could have a bad battery... you might drop by a TMo retail store and ask sweetly if they have one charged which you can try, to see if that is your issue.

Problem sounds vaguely similar to what happened when I tried to use a battery from another model (I think it was my 7100 series) in the 8700g. It was a fit, so I tried it.

The OS recognized this right away and would not let me continue. I think I got a message about having a bad battery at first, then it would not even power up.

Since the BB uses smart battery management/charging, maybe there is logic to check the battery type and state.
