Default 8700 updating - 07-15-2008, 02:54 PM

I remember reading somewhere that you can update the firmware in a clone BB phone - refurbed - by deleting some file once you install download and extract the firmware... does anyone know what needs to be done?

We have a refurb BB 8700 which we are using Rogers.

Thanks
Andrew

Updating the handheld software is done easily. The device firmware cannot be changed. What are you trying to do exactly?

The phone has 4.01 firmware installed and Roger's firmware is higher than that, if I use the Rogers firmware on the refurb phone which isn't a Rogers phone the firmware tells me I don't have a compatible phone becuase it looks for the Rogers phone...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

Oh. www.blackberryfaq.com look for "how do I update my OS" and follow the instructions. All you have to do is delete the vendor.xml file

How do I upgrade the OS on my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ

Look at the 8700 OS linked at the TOP of this 87xx section for the latest and greatest release of the 8700 OS.

I looked on the main page for the "how do I upgrade my OS" and there is nothing listed there...

And I downloaded and install the Rogers firmware for the 8700, then searched my machine for vender.xml and came up empty.
