OS: 8700 4.5.0.81 / 4.5.0.55 (MultiLanguage) -
08-14-2008, 09:45 PM
Software For BlackBerry® 8700 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.81 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.5.0.81
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.5.0.55
Software Platform: 2.7.0.68
File name: 8700M_PBr4.5.0_rel81_PL2.7.0.68_A4.5.0.55_F100.exe
File size: 63.82MB
Download link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...94685E4F4D1E5C
Instructions for installing on ANY 8700 (regardless of carrier)
1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed. If not, get it here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the OS file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

On the 8700 the main differences are the addition of Documents To Go, the browser and HTML email. Most everything else is transparent. The 8700 does work very well with 4.5, though.

From 4.5.0.75 to this is usually just minor bugs that we won't see graphically.. Little things like compatiblility with a certain bluetooth headset.. Under certain conditions, e-mail won't be marked as read.. If a voice note is exactly 42 seconds long, a Java Exception.. Little things like that.. We prolly won't even see it unless a lot of users have the same problem. :P

8700c Tmobile OS -
08-16-2008, 02:12 PM
Hey guys and gals, I've downloaded the Tmobile OS for an 8700 that is currently branded for CIngular. Once I connect the phone, Desktop Manager never askes me to upgrade the phones firmware/OS. Is there a way to manually update the phone? Does it have to be unlocked first? Bottom line is It's an 8700C Cingular and I want to use it on Tmobile and have a Tmobile OS. How do I do this?
Thanks
JM

Problem with connecting -
08-17-2008, 03:19 PM
I had the desktop manager and then downloaded the new 4.5 os from this thread link, and then deleted the vendor.xml file, and installed both, then when i open the desktop manager and connect my bb, a smaller window comes up that says "please wait" and its been there for hours and nothing has come across the status bar. Any ideas? - Thanks

8700C Help -
08-19-2008, 01:59 PM
Need some help. Just bought a 8700C (Cingular/ATT). It's not locked and works on tmobile my current carrier. Is it safe to download the lastest desktop and hand held software and use it on this device. I don't see this model listed in the handheld software drop down. I see 8700 Smartphone and 8700G. Which one should be selected.
ATT links to BBs downloads area, and shows v4.2.1.155 (Multilanguage) as the highest level for the hand held (8700C) and 4.3 on the desktop.
Any input/feedback is appreciated.

I would suggest re-reading the first post here... But when they post newest rev's of software's its from all vendors. We just strip em down so vendor files don't matter.

FYI, I've tried twice (uninstalling and reinstalling as well) and 4.5 will not install without bricking my 8700C.
It will just sit there and blink red every few minutes.
I used apploader and the older 4.2 from AT&T to get my phone working again.
Are there multiple versions of the 8700C out there?

3 8700's loaded today -
08-20-2008, 04:10 PM
Hi everyone...
I loaded 2 loaner 8700's and one test user today for a total of 3. The load went fine on all 3 and was seamless. I am using DM 4.6. Wiped all three units and ran through the update fine. All 3 units have the browser, spell check and additional tweeks the 4.5 OS offers.
I will update as we go a report any issues...
Thanks again for posting this update. The spell check is worth the update if that was the only new addition.
H.

Are these BES units? That's why they have a Browser. Non BES devices may not get a browser.

Yes, all BES units...
John, why would this make any difference? I never activated any of them except the one test user. Does the upgrade grab what was originally on the old OS? The one I activated was the test user and she has the same browser as the two loaners?
I know if you do not have a data plan the browser sometimes will not show. Is this the same then with users trying to use BIS?
I am monitoring the one test user as I would like to be able to upgrade the other 8700c users we have if this gives them the spell check. If this is stable, it would be great to upgrade the others. Same with .55 on the 8310's.

I have gone through lines and lines of code and do not see where AT&T hid their proprietary restriction for the wap (Cingular) browser, yet I cannot get the RIM Internet Browser to show up with OS 4.5.X.X...

Are you on BES?
I am wondering if John is correct?
Did you try a different theme?
I remember another trick regarding I think the security on the browser. There was a setting we used to do when the browser did not show up even though the account was provisioned for mobile data services. It was not the service book either...
I will try to remember this and get back to you... (was it re-register the host routing table?? (can't remember))
Anyone??

When a BB is activated on BES the "BlackBerry Browser" is enabled. The browser that is missing is the "Internet Browser." If one is on BES they can use the Blackberry Browser for most everything. However, if one is only on BIS then there is no browser. This will be the case until AT&T releases OS 4.5.

Problem installing -
08-21-2008, 04:37 PM
I downloaded and installed 4.5 on my 8700 yesterday with no problem. Today I ran the installation file on another PC, and when I connected the BB to the DM, it did not tell me that updates were available. I ran the application loader, and it showed nothing new to install. In Add/Remove programs BB OS Software 4.5 was listed. I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times (each time I removed the Research in Motion Folder from Program Files > Common Files before installing). Still no upgrades available when connecting to DM. In the application loader, I clicked on Add and maneuvered to the Research In Motion Folder. In the "Shared" folder is a folder called "Loader Files". In that folder there is a folder called "8700 v4.5.0.55_P2.7.0.68. There are 16 alx files in that folder. Can I just manually add and install them?
Thanks in advance for any/all replies!

You can also download the 4.5.0.55 multilanguage firmware directly from Vodafone:
