Latest OS: 8700 4.5.0.92/4.50.69 (Multilanguage) -
09-10-2008, 11:22 PM
BlackBerry 8700 Smartphone [f]
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.92 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.5.0.92
Consisting of: - Applications: 4.5.0.69
- Software Platform: 2.7.0.72
- File name: 8700M_PBr4.5.0_rel92_PL2.7.0.72_A4.5.0.69_Orange_F rance.exe
- File size: 63.65MB
Download here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...A5DFF913DF997A Scroll to the bottom of the list and choose "BlackBerry 8700 Smartphone [f]"
Instructions for installing on ANY 8700 (regardless of carrier)
1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed. If not, get it here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the OS file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

I upgraded an 8700c that I had previously unlocked. The upgrade installed fine, but now it seems that it has re-locked to AT&T (note I did remove the vendor.xml file). I don't have my unlock code handy, but I'll try it if I can find it. Has anyone else experienced this? When I insert my T-Mobile SIM, I get an "Initialization Failed" message. I've tried taking the battery and SIM out and restarting.
Any ideas?
Note I had my T-Mobile SIM in the BB for the entire process.

My solution so far has been to downgrade to 4.2. Under 4.1, my T-Mobile SIM worked just fine. Under 4.2, it works fine, but if I power it down, the only way to avoid an "initialization failed" message on restart is to remove and reinsert the battery (an AT&T SIM handles this OK). Under 4.5, I get the initialization failed error message all the time with the T-Mobile SIM, even if I remove and reinsert the battery.

I am selecting "Terminal mobile BlackBerry(MC) 8700f" and the only 2 downloads it offers are 4.1:
- Version: 4.1.0.191
- BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.1.0.391 (Multilanguage)
What am I missing? Has the 4.5 version been removed??

Might I recommend adding that to the original post to help those who also may be confused with it?

I did the upgrade this morning and all went well.. But I have just discovered that I can't do ALT+I and ALT+O under messages (to show Out and In boxes)..
This certainly worked before, so I can only confirm that its a bug introduced by the new firmware.. Can anyone else confirm this?
I have already pulled the battery just in case, but I still have the same problem.

It's still there. You may need to resend your service books. Go to Options >Advanced Options >Host routing Table. Hit menu and select Register Now.

For those of you who upgraded to this version, would you recommend it for 4.2 users? What is the biggest difference? Is it just the boot up time?

The 4.5.0.69 (92) upgrade brings the 8700 visually closer to usability enhancements seen on standard PC operating systems - of course cell phones are limited by comparison. Email capability is richer with HTML, BB messenger has been upgraded and most of the annoying bugs were fixed.
I think the upgrade runs faster overall. Bug fixes to the TCP stack or API are also present. Applications that had issues with 4.2, now run correctly with 4.5.0.69 (92).
The Internet Browser interface was redone - very nice. Support for multiple Calendars was added - another nice feature.
Summary: This upgrade is now mature and worth the effort to install. Be prepared for small interface changes, but all better than 4.2.
Back up your system, install it, and see what you think. Nice upgrade

Yes, there are difference, therefore the difference in the release numbers.
Upgrade if you feel you need to do so, if you have an isuse or bug unresolved in the older version.

Upgrade hiccups... -
09-25-2008, 12:02 PM
Need some help with upgrading to the latest OS and Desktop Manager for:
8700, v4.104.194 (Platform 2.0.0.90)
Laptop with WinXP SP2
1) Installed the desktop manager s/w v4.2. SP2 and deleted the vendor.xml file. I now receive an error at boot up: "The instruction at "0x60f04d76" referenced memory at "0x60f04d76". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. Click on CANCEL to debug the program."
I click on cancel. Seems like a lot of HD activity following but I still get the error next boot up.
2) Desktop manager never prompts for upgrade. I have the new device OS downloaded and installed on my laptop, connected the 8700 and opened the desktop manager.
Thoughts?

1. Try installing DM versions 4.5 or 4.6.
2. Did you delete the vendor.xml file AFTER you install the OS upgrade?
3. There is a more up-to-date OS, I just posted...

Wirelessly posted (Pearl Crackhead!!)
Is anyone having trouble using the Internet Browser/Blackberry Browser with this os? I have the BIS plan on at&t network, and using an 8700c with this os! FYI: I have tried a couple different 4.5 os's with this device and still no Blackberry Browser! Media Net/Cingular Browser works fine. Just wondering if its just me?
If I Knew Then What I Know Now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
