Default Latest OS: 8700 4.5.0.174/4.5.0.124 (English & East Asian) - 01-14-2009, 12:16 PM

Software For BlackBerry® 8700 smartphone
Contains English; from Indosat
This will load to any carriers 8700.
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.174 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.5.0.174
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.5.0.124
  • Software Platform: 2.7.0.92
  • File name: 8700EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel174_PL2.7.0.92_A4.5.0.124 _Indosat.exe
  • File size: 75.1MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B53786A2C5FA09

Instructions for installing on ANY 8700 (regardless of carrier)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

go to www.blackberry.com/downloads

and find the link that is labeled Device Software. Follow the directions there until you are prompted to choose your device to find if there are any updates.

Choose the 8700 series.

And you should be able to download 4.5
that version WILL work. Because I installed it not too long ago.

Okay, I just downloaded this update and installed it onto my backup BlackBerry. Now when I go and check the info on my "Help Me!" screen, I get

Platform: 2.7.0.66
App Version: 4.5.0.52 (75)

I disconnect the phone, restart my computer and then go into the Add/Remove program applet to make sure its saying what it should. The information on the installed 8700 software is

Version: 4.5.0.124 (Platform 2.7.0.92)

I reconnect the phone and then load the DM, expecting it to say that my software needs updating, but it does not.

What am I missing?

UPDATE: I just tried to go to updating manually in the DM and I notice that it has two options there, and is selecting the older of the two options and not the new one that I just installed. Why is that and how do I fix it?

Updated my Blackberry 8700R
Previous version was .81

Installation was completed in about 30 minutes, the fastest installation ever!

Post-Installation shows some lag but that may just be at first. This is a corporate use Blackberry and get's a lot of usage. Will advise later.

Default Does desktop manager not check for OS updates? - 02-10-2009, 06:09 PM

I have an 8700, platform v2.00.152, app 4.1.0.377. Connected to the desktop manager and selected Application Loader, then the check device software updates button. It connects to the device, and then says there are no software updates available for your device. Given that I see there is a new OS version available, how do I interpret this? Does the new OS version not work on my device, is the Loader/Checker checking for something other than OS version and for some reason ignoring that?

Background appreciated.

Default Delete the vendor.xml file - 02-10-2009, 11:34 PM

Good evening,

The reason that Desktop Manager is not indicating that there is a new OS available is likely due to the fact that the Vendor.xml file located at "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader" does not include your carrier. Just delete that file and reconnect your device. While your at it, I would recommend following the tips located here to ensure that your BB is optimized.

4.5.0.124 PROBLEMS !!! Has anyone running this formware on the 8700 had issues with the "enter key - next to $) acting as a down arrow in the call log and P(ause) and W(aits) not being stored with the correct symbols in addressbook and subsequently causing the call to be dropped when called from addressbook ?

Also a really obtuse question maybe, if I select a lower level firmware say 4.5.0.102 for the 8100 Pearl, will this break my device ?

Default Error reading setup initialization file? - 02-12-2009, 09:10 AM

Has anyone seen this error message when you download and double click the OS update (screen attached)? I tried this with and without the vendor file present in programs/common/rim; same result.

Any ideas?

I have had more luck getting the 8700r to update when NOT using the Desktop Software, not even with it installed I mean. I download the OS (70MB or so) then install in on the PC and after its finished installing it asks if you want to install it and if you answer yes it takes you into the loader and forces the install not giving it the chance to say it doesnt need any new software.

Default Installation error solved - 02-12-2009, 09:08 PM

Thanks. I found two things. First, I went to the AT&T site and downloaded their software OS update; no installation problems with that. Second, as noted above, I would agree, it seems odd, but avoiding using the desktop software seems to be a better process; as indicated in the instructions above.

Can anyone confirm that they have the same problem as me after upgrading to the multi language Asian version at the top of this post.

If anyone has the AT&T 4.5 version WITH a browser please send me the URL for the AT&T version thanks.

I just finished installing this new OS, few things appeared on my BB like Customer Center online, Customer Manager, MyMonternet, Service Hotline,Xin Ji Service Guide.

I tried to locate them under Settings->Options->Advanced Options-> Applications so I can remove them from there, but can't see them there. Please let me know how to get rid of these applications.

THanks,

Hello all. I'm new to the BB world, and I've had my BB 8700 for about 3 days now, and it came pre-loaded with 4.2. Is there any reason I should be upgrading to 4.5? Seems like (from reading this thread) that it's just causing people nothing but problems. Thanks in advance.

Chris,

Keep in mind this thread has nearly 7,000 views and only 25 other posts. People generally only post issues and not success stories. That's really the purpose of support forums like this one.

There are a lot of features in 4.5 such as voice recording, Docs to Go, a better browser, Youtube support, HTML email support to name a couple.

You're welcome.

If you're happy with your device as it is, then there's really no need to upgrade. In the end it's all up to you.

Just for any other users reading this, and became concerned because of all of the horror stories, I successfully updated my device to 4.5 without any problems.

Simply followed the OP's instructions exactly, and resulted in a painless and relatively quick updating. Only additional step I would add is after the initial completion of the updating, I did a battery pull to refresh my BB. Before the battery pull, my applications loaded a bit slowly, but now it's as fast as pre-update.
