It’s certainly not a very in depth or fact filled article. However, I’ve found Brighthand to be pretty accurate with their predictions.

It's 11/1.

On 10/28, the FCC will make public the 8700 series on the FCC website.

Yeah, it'll support EDGE. The atgnow.com pictures showed an EDGE icon for the signal meter.

Is that a push-to-talk button on the side?

I spoke with Cingular B2B today and they informed me that they have no info on the 8700 yet but they have been told they will have the info sometime next week. However, after today's events in the court (a possible injunction against sales in the U.S.) and with RIMM's stock stopped from trading I wonder if everything will be delayed. Anyone have any real info? Has the gala comming out party been postponed?

I am fairly certain that it will not effect current users, including service. I believe it would halt new sales. Very unfortunate for RIM. Wonder what Balsillie's back up plan is.

If the 8700 is launched next week, will be available for sale immediately (business sales), or will it be a delayed release?

Hello everyone. I haven't posted here before. I follow the forum, though. I used Blackberries for over two years in the early going and loved them. Then the hiptop came along. It was too good to pass up. Only $20 for unlimited data in Canada and a graphic browser, too! I've never given up on the possibility of returning some day to a bb if it changed in some ways. Hey you guys, what do you think about the recent court ruling concerning the possibility you guys might lose your bb coverage!? --jon

Say what? RIMM stock was stopped from trading? Wher'd you get that John? I can't find any news of that. The stock has certainly taken some hits because of the court news, but it was trading on Friday, including after hours trading. Was there a stoppage during the weekend?

Here is one link to the news. I also saw some others:

RIM stock plunges after patent appeal rejected
Canadian Press

TORONTO — Research In Motion Ltd. stock plunged 10 per cent Friday before trading was halted on news that a U.S. appeal court had rejected the BlackBerry maker's request for a new hearing of its ongoing patent dispute with Virginia-based NTP Inc.

The Waterloo, Ont.-based company had asked that all 12 judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., hear its appeal of lower-court decisions.

But according to a statement from NTP Inc., RIM's request was rejected and the case was sent back to District Court.

It's the latest setback in the U.S. courts for Research In Motion, although not necessarily a knockout blow since the company is pursuing other avenues of appeal as well as challenges at the U.S. patent office.

Research In Motion shares fell 10.3 per cent to $71, a decline of $8.15, on the Toronto Stock Exchange before the trading halt was issued pending an announcement from the company.

Of course this may have been temporary.

Trading was stopped briefly. It happens when there is a big press release. It resumed later in the day and by the end of the day the stock had only gone down about a dollar.

the gray cingular version is horribly ugly. Who in their right mind thought that straying from the black version would be a good idea?

Courts are highly unlikely to shut down a business, especially if the business is in any way seeking to resolve the dispute. Besides, neither side wins if a business is shut down and the cash is stopped.

The upshot: Worst case scenario for RIMM is that they pay over cash and keep on trucking. Best case scenario if you buy stock at this overreaction by the analysts is that you get some cash. Worst case scenario for Berry users - - there ain't none.

That is factually incorrect, at least in the US.

Also incorrect. NTP has already been issued an injunction (which I have not read), which has been stayed temporarily. Should that injunction be reinstated, RIM will be forced to put cease operation in some or all of its business.

I wonder how many of NTP's lawyers use blackberries ;)

And there you have the crux of the problem. Not only does every attorney here in DC use a BB, just about every member of Congress does as well. And don't forget about the First Dog! Who's gonna cut off that poor little pooch???

All speculation (and that's all we have is speculation) is iDEN release for LATE 2006. This is based on the release patterns for all of their prior handhelds. Sorry.
