Default Bluetooth Headsets w/8700: Which work best? - 11-26-2005, 01:10 AM

Hi! My first post, been reading for a few weeks, love the site. BG: love the screen shots.

MY QUESTION! What bluetooth headsets have you used with the 8700 and what features did it support / not support? For example did it support voice dialing? Hold? 3 way calling? Vibrate? Most importantly, did you hear the phone ring in the earpiece for incoming calls? THANKS! Hoping the Motorola 850 works well...

I have only tested the Flamingo so far but I will be testing others. None will give you voice dialing since there is no sftware for the 8700 to allow voice dialing (yet). I hope someone will offer an application now that it uses an Intel chip set.

I have been using the Moto HS850 with my 7100g for a few weeks - I just got my 8700 this morning and it works great. Most people have no clue I am on a BT headset.

I'd be interested if anyone has used the Plantronics Discovery 640 BT Headset. I'm planning on buying one on Monday and would like some real world reviews. Otherwise I'll stick to my trusty Moto HS820 for now.

I sent a request to Plantronics to obtain a review unit yesterday. I would purchase one but I already have way too many and it gets expensive buying all of the headsets I review. Hopefully soon.

Thanks John. I'll be looking forward to your review. I did find other postings of others who have used it with the 7100 series and like it so far...

Thanks! One quick questions... with your 8700 and the HS850, when a call comes in , do you hear the rining in the HS850? Thanks I'm dying to know.

I have the Plantronics 640. As I stated in a prior post, I'll do a mini-review once I've used it with the 8700 for a few days. So far, so good.

The Plantronics 640 seems like it would be a great choice. The AAA charger and the four different adapters to charge it using your cell phone's charger is very innovative. Also, the pocket carrier has a vibrate function. It looks neat, too. I use an HS-820 without any problems to report. But most of the time I'm using the handsfree in the car.

I've got the Plantronics Discovery (although not with an 8700 as I haven't received my launch party device yet) and to date it has really worked well. As usual, some issues with ambient noise (when I'm on the rental car bus from the airport) but much better than others I have recently used Mot HS850, Jabra, etc.) Also MUCH louder than most others - the dreaded bluetooth volume issue with BB's.

Thanks everyone. I've been looking for some positive comments on this Plantronics BT Headset. I guess I'll be purchasing one this Monday. And thanks to Zoinks for posting pictures of it with his 8700. Looks Great!

the HS850 has a collapsable (sp) mouth piece, if its open the headset is on, if not its off. If you a wearing the earpiece (mp open / device on) it beeps when a call is coming in, it also beeps when your revieving a second call. You need to tell it to auto connect other wise you will need to approve the connection everytime you open the device, however once it is set to acccept the connection you can open the device once you phone rings and accept the call from the HS850, usefull if you dont like waering the device all the time.

With the coolest phone out there you must have the coolest bluetooth headset - Bluespoon 5g. Weighs 5 grams and is 30mm long. Ain't ever gonna get smaller than this!

300 clams for the 5g but it is indeed very, very, cool. Nextlink also makes the Bluespoon AX2 for $64.95. It's pretty cool also but gigantic compared to the 5g.

same here, pl 510 works perfectly with 8700, and the small delay that the pl 510 had with the bb 7290 has virtually dissapear with the 8700

I was a beta tester for the 5G and although it is great, it is simply too small. I never really thought I would say that about a headset. I could never get it to sit properly in my ear and stay. Size aside it worked very well. I eventually went back to using my Bluespoon Digital.

You know its funny different people you listen to each have pluses and minuses for the same headsets. I for example use the HS-820 by Motorola, scores of people here have put it down, granted that they all have different phones and in different environments and all, and I think that in itself would cause anyones reviews to be impartial on their own merits, but this little headset has worked great for me since day one. No noise, loud enough for me to hear the people calling me, and loud and clear enough for others to hear me, mind you I use it primarily as I drive around in my truck with windows down and all.

I have been using the HBH-610 which is to my knowledge one of two currently available 2.0 headsets and it seems to work well. I am not sure if voice quality is much better with it b/c of the 2.0, but it does work much better on the 8700 than it does on the 7100

My Nokia HS-4W is boring me now. I have had it for a very long time. I am considering the following headsets:

Jabra BT250v
Jabra BT800
Plantronics M2500
Motorola HS 810
Motorola HS820
Motorola HS850
Bluespoon 5G

I am not sure which one to buy. If any of you have used those or heard anything about those headsets with the 8700 series blackberry from people you know I'd love to hear what the feedback is like. Thanks.

Default Motorola HS850 for BB 8700 - 11-29-2005, 04:11 PM

Just purchased the Mototola HS850. It is for phones with blue thooth v1.1 or v1.2 compliant. It is small and has range of 30 feet. Advertised talk time of 8hrs. Suppose to be very clear and great audio quality. So far I am very pleased. It is expensive @ $99.99. Asked several callers if I was comming over clear - all said I was very clear with zero feedback.
