Default 8700 Leather Case..Beware! - 11-27-2005, 09:44 AM

I was searching for a leather case for a 8700, and I came across to this..
http://www.wirelessgalaxy.com/ac/blackberry_8700.html
While it say's "compatible" with the 8700; after a little research;
tha part number shown on the web page is for a genuine leather case for blackberry 7750.
( http://www.shopblackberry.com/_black...WBA7TARN5PCEF3 )
Being that the dimensions of a 7750 are not even close to the 8700, this case would be too big for the 8700.
Just my .02

(thanks barjohn)

It's wrong - you're right. That is for the 6700/7700 series. How many you want?

RIM hasn't released the 8700 cases yet.

Touch'e!!!

Actually I'm using the Danger Sidekick Neoprene side case for my 8700 right now... nice fit if you don't mind the side kick logo.

Not very "Blackberry" but it works for now http://store.bizshopr.com/dan01839.html

Magnet in the holster is used to put the blackberry to "sleep" and conserve battery power. Basically shuts off the display and there is speculation that it also reduces the processor speed. Still is able to send/receive data in this reduced state.

No it does not acoss I had at one point in an earlier post touted the case for use with my 7250 and it does fit and snuggly which is nice. You do have to add the magnet and the thing that finally got me away from it was the fact that it is so soft and flimsy I was afraid my screen would get broken, specially when you use the buttons to attach it to your belt since it does not have a clip. So I would be careful, If you are only going to use it for a little while it is not bad, as a long term solution I would not.

Default Magnet? - 11-27-2005, 05:37 PM

Is the magnet even necessary anymore since the 8700 "sleeps" automatically?

Right about the magnet - there isn't one in the SideKick case. As I mentioned this might be a temporary solution until the leather cases from RIM show.

As for the sleeper function... it hasn't really been a sleeper function for a while since the BB does sleep on it's own HOWEVER it does induce "holster" mode which can be used to automatically switch alert profiles. Rumor is that the Intel processor will slow down when holster mode is detected but I haven't seen any evidence yet.
