Default Where are you guys buying your 8700c's from?? - 12-01-2005, 02:15 PM

Where are you guys buying your new 8700c's from??

Are you signing new contracts with Cingular and paying the "upgrade" price? Are you buying a new 8700c outright from Cingular? Are you getting in online from eBay?

Trying to figure out the best approach here.....

Thanks.

Well, I had originally purchased a 7290 2 days before the 8700 came out. I called every cingular store in NYC until I found one that had them, walked to the store, told the clerk that I had just signed a new contract and since the 8700 wasnt out yet i should get a 7290 and just come back for a 8700. at first the clerk didnt want to help me, but then someone else came by and just told them to sell it to me and pay the difference...I'll admit I got extremely lucky, cuz i hear other stores werent being so generous.

I bought one without a contract from eaccess. It was pricey, but it's in my office now

I was already a Cingular customer, but broke my 7290 in October in a motorcycle accident. I got a new 7290 for $160 with corporate discount in early november through Business unit over the phone and then swapped this week to a 8700 over the phone for the difference of $190 - $50 mail-in rebate and free BT from RIM.

No contract changes were made or talked about, generally a good experience overall.

Got mine from a Corp Cingular store. Extended my contract 2 years, added the BB dataplan and so far so good. Moved from a Treo 650 to the BB 8700c. Paid $349 plus a $50 rebate making it $299. Also go a free BT and $20 off another.

I got mine at a Cingular store in Sacramento, I was due for an upgrade.

I called last Friday and they said they didnt have them, then they said they would have them at 4pm (?) - I went in at 4:01 - They had to dig for it but I got it. Took about 45 minutes for the guy to figure out how to a upgrade.

If we do this and get the $50 rebate, we need to add the unlimited data plan. Does the rebate specify how long we must have the unlimited data plan? Is it for the entire 2 years that we extend our contracts for? (Just trying to get all the info, if I leave my current job I want to know if I will then be responsible for paying for the unlimited data option).

Thanks.

You can print both rebates from here and read the details. From what I see, it looks like you need a 1yr or 2yr contract of $39 or greater. But I didn't read the really fine print, I just mailed them both today ;)

I got mine at a Cingular store in NYC for $247.50. I got a 45% corporate discount from the retail price. I also got the 50$ mail in rebate.

Thanks, I just read the thread linked above, how is your out of pocket cost only $90 in the end? That's a great deal! Please share how to do this!

Well, it might be a stretch, but the story goes like this. In October I fell on my motorcyle and broke my 7290. But the 8700 wasn't due out for another month. I couldn't go without a BB/phone for a month, so I bought another 7290 for $160 after corporate discount. That $160 I figure is spent as I didn't have a choice at the other than replacing the broken display which was about the same price. I forgot, I also sold the broken 7290 for a net of $70.

After about 3 weeks I used Cingulars 30day return policy and I swapped the 7290 for the 8700 for a difference of $110. You take the $180 minus the $50 rebate and $60 BT so I end up with a net out of pocket of $0.

Sorry, my math was off ;)

I too walked into a Corp Cingular store the day after Thanksgiving and exchanged my 7290 for an 8700 using the 30 day exchange policy. I had to pay $50 (the difference between the cost of the 7290 and the 8700).

Well after reading all the good things about the 8700, I finally ponied up. I called Cingular last night and mine is on the way! Upgraded to the 8700, so I signed a new 2 yr contract and got the 8700 for $300 ($350 - $50 rebate).

Can't wait!!
