Default New OS for 8703e... HELP - 10-11-2009, 08:24 PM

Hi,
I have the 8703e, and I am getting told, I can't use the new OS or Blackberry Messenger with my device... Is this correct?

Did you read my post in your other thread?
You need to update to a newer OS.
This is in the stickied thread at the top of this device forum.
THe instructions are included also.

Why can you not do this? Have you been told you cannot upgrade?

If there is an OS upgrade for the 8703, then you can use it. Don't need external memory. Midnightdraven is correct.

And please do not double post.

thanks for that. Two questions:

- It says to remove the VENDOR.XML file if its not a Sprint device - how do I do that?
- Can you tell me step by step how to do the upgrade? This is the first time for me

- Download the handheld OS from the link cited above.
- Execute (run/install) the program you just downloaded.
- Locate (search for) VENDOR.XML on your PC C: drive and delete it
- Connect your BlackBerry to an available USB port on your PC or laptop
- Start Desktop Manager and follow the prompts to upgrade

I guess searching for it isn't happening.

Try looking in

c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

Pulling teeth. 32 or 64 bit.

If 64 bit, then look in

c:\program files (x86)

That's why you should SEARCH for the file.

Okay, I followed these stpes, it then searches for the updates and says there are none......

To load the latest software on your device you will need to perform the following steps:
Click the "Software Download" link for new device software version 4.5.0.148 below. A dialog box will open up. Choose to "Run" the software. Follow the step by step prompts to install the device software to your PC's BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Running and installing the software to your PC may take up to 30 minutes to complete.
Once the software downloads to your PC, you will be asked to start BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Choose "yes" and click the finish button.
Use a USB cable to connect your PC and BlackBerry. If your device displays a pop-up window when you connect it to your PC via the USB cable with an option to set the device as mass storage, select "No".
An Application Updates window may appear, if so, click "Update Now". If the Application Updates window does not appear, double-click the Application Loader icon. The Application Loader Wizard should appear.
Select the box to Update Device Software.
Click Finish to begin loading the software on your device.
Software loading can take approximately 1 hour to complete. Do not to remove the cable during the software loading process.

- Shut down Desktop Manager
- Download the handheld OS
- Execute (install it) onto our PC
- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
- Connect your BB to your PC and start Desktop manager

The software should try to load.
