I read that Cingular are running outdated BIS compare to Tmo, and it takes a few min for emails to get "push" to the device. Is this true? How fast do emails usually goes to the device? Anyone know if Cingular will plan on upgrading their BIS?

Email usually takes 3-5 seconds for me!

1-2 seconds three is stretching it for me.

Up until this week, I had my email set up through the BIS, which polls every 15 minutes or so. This week, I changed my pop3 mail server to automatically copy my BB email addy and it now gets to my BB in 2-5 seconds.

I use the 8700r and I get my email within seconds.

You guys can't be getting them that fast with Cingular if you're not on a separate BES or forwarding through Gmail or something similar. The Cingular service polls every 15 minutes or so, from what I understand, and is not true push service without a BES. Cingular uses BIS which is different and not instant push. When I first got my 8700c I tested email several times and discovered it took several minutes to receive email, then I did extensive research on this site and learned about the BIS service. Then I followed instructions, also on this site, to forward all my accts through Gmail, use their filters, and get instant push within 2-3 seconds this way. From what I know, this is the only way on Cing without a BES in place. If I am wrong, and I do not need the Gmail routing, please educate me otherwise.

It all depends on how you've set up your non-BES Non-Blackberry email. If you have set the BIS/BWC to pull from a POP3 account, it will poll periodically (about 15 min. I'm told). If you set up your Non-BB email to forward to your BB account, it is passed on to the handset immediatly.

If I send an email from my handset to myself, it usually is less than 2 seconds before it is returned.

And my attahcments are available to the handset for more than thirty days

I plan on using the bb address and put it as the forwarder in my company's exchange server and edit the reply to and from address. This way i should be able to recieve my email instantly right?

For my BIS email, I also use forwarding. Many different ISP's permit you to forward a copy of all your emails to the BlackBerry. So you get them normally but you also get a quick copy on your BlackBerry within a few seconds.

The 8700 is about the same speed as the other models - less than 5 seconds for receiving emails usually. (Assuming you are using forwarding instead of POP pull).

Be noted, that you can have better email reconcilation (deleted, read) when using T-Mobile BIS with POP pull. So in exchange for slower email reception, you get email reconcilation.

However, I prefer the forwarding method, even though I have to read each email twice -- once on my BlackBerry and again on my main account.

I also use BES too, but that's for my work emails now.

Alot faster than I got them on my Pocket PC!
