Default 8703e lags, but my 8700g doesnt? - 11-08-2009, 06:24 AM

my 8703e which i use on verizon now, it no where near as fast as my old 8700g that i had (still have) when i had tmobile. the old tmobile one is running OS 4.1.0.346 (Platform 2.0.0.143).

the verizon 8703e has been like this since i got it, and i upgraded to OS 4.2xx (it was a tad higher than whatever was on it when i bought it) and still doing it. i left it like that for months, and i just now upgraded to 4.5.0.148 (Platform 2.4.0.22).

when i say lags, one of the things that pisses me off the most is when i go to lock or unlock it.

ive put both phones on the table side by side, ill lock both, the tmobile one will lock almost instantly after i press the center hotkey that i have set to the lock button.

the verizon one, it takes 1-2 sometimes 3 seconds to lock. same goes for unlocking. that really annoys me to no end.

also, another thing is picture msgs. i could have sworn on my tmobile one, when someone would send me a picture text, i could see the pic. on the verizon one, it comes through as "youve got a PIX msg, log on to vzwpix.com to view" etc...doesnt even show me on the phone what number it was sent from, i have to log in on a computer to their site to see it. i dont remember this happening with my GSM 8700. i thought maybe that would have changed with the upgrade to os 4.5, but it didnt.

any ideas here on what i can do? i like the 8700 out of any other blackberry, just becuase ive put both of them through hell and back, and they just work. plain and simple. alot of people i know with 83xx, bolds, tours, storms, etc...they just dont seem as reliable. maybe one day ill upgrade, but for now i dont wanna get rid of this phone, even though the lag on the cdma one is annoying as hell. another thing i dont like on any new BB's is the trackball....the newer touchpad ones arent too bad but i still like the side trackwheel

It's my memory that my 8700g got a little less responsive with each OS upgrade, but not too a large degree. My 8820 does take noticeable seconds to lock; I remember my previous blackberrys would lock almost instantly.

As far as reliability, my 8820 is every bit as reliable as my previous models. I can't say it's as rugged -- My 8700g actually came out the case a number of times and hit the pavement, so it was tested; I haven't yet had the same experience with the 8820, knock on wood.

i meant to say rugged, not more reliable. lol.

so i wonder what would happen if i downgrade my 8703e to like 4.1 like my tmobile one...are old versions like that even still available for download?
