Default Number port to 8700c - 12-10-2005, 10:24 PM

Hello,

First post, let me know if this is the wrong forum.

I recently got an 8700c from my company and was supposed to have my Nextel BB number ported over. The 8700 arrived with a new number and when I called Cingular a few days later about the port the rep said that it couldn't be done since this account already had a number assigned?

I was told that there was no way at all to port the number other than opening up another new account. I would rather not have through the hassel of terminating my account to open a new one.

Does this seem right? Any experiences?

call back and talk to someone in the port dept. They assign temp #'s all the time. Talk to someone who knows what they are doing. That doesn't sound right to me.

Would that be the 1-888-880-6914 number?

If it makes a difference I had to call the ATT support number to get help so I am guessing that makes us a "Blue" account?

Thank you

NO. It's not right. I've ported over 20 numbers over to cingular from tmo, verizon, and nextel. I know every line of BS they give you. IF that new number they assigned to you was activated then AT WORST you'll need a new SIM card from them. Which they can ship to you free of charge (don't allow them to do it any other way). If you never even got it activated yet, all you need to do is tell them the Sim SN (ICCID) and the IMEI of your device and the port department have it ported over literally in minutes.

If I recall Nextel does require a phone call to release the number but Cingular can tell you the number to call and you can put them on hold and do it, it will only take a second. Call this number, Porting #: 888-898-7685

Trust me, I know this from painful hands on experience. Every phone call is different, you'll get people telling you different things every time so the easiest is if YOU know what you are talking about and can guide them. If you think you've got a real idi0t on your hands then simply hang up and call again, odds will be in your favor eventually.

I thought that sounded bogus, I guess my first call to Cingular got me one of the idiots!

Thank you for your help.

You're going to find that's pretty much SOP for Cingular.
