I had this for the 7100 -
12-26-2005, 11:30 PM
While it was nice, I gotta say that my OEM 7280 case was my fav, so I am waiting to see what they come up with. I don't like the swivel on the Gizmoskin because it doesn't knotch and it doesn't lock around the belt.

Right on.
I've got one and I'm not sure I like it. A few times I've noticed the case starting to come off my belt because the clip is so weak.

The Gizmo case was too loose and the sleep magnet is not positioned correctly. The leather is nice but the case does not hold the BB firmly and it bounces around. I went back to the BB plastic case.

Ditto-
BTW, I and the person I'm speaking with hear a loud squeal when I put the 8700 back into the Gizmo case during a call (using a BT headset at the time). Never happened with the original plastic case. This happening to anyone else?

I would definately buy a good leather or plastic pouch/case for 8700 because the holster is not that solid and device slips out so easily. holster on past models had been very solid and sturdy.
So far I am using my old nokia phone horizontal pouch with a tiny magnet taped on the side and it works perfectly -

This is unfortunate to hear as I had this case for the 7100 and I thought it was great. I have purchased the one for the 8700 and I am waiting for it to arrive. Now I am not as excited . . . but will keep an open mind and see if I like it as much as I did the 7100 case. I will report back after I have had it for a couple of days.

Hello all!
One of my customers was kind enough to point me to this thread.
I am the manufacturer of this case and would like to quickly leave a note here… Please note that I am not here to advertise my product.
I have recently discovered that any orders before Dec 20th for this Blackberry 8700 case were processed with stock that had a higher than usual defect rate.
I have been very successful with the 7100 cases but the 8700 cases seemed to have started poorly because of this issue. Rest assured I will resolve all issues immediately.
I fully support my product and if you experienced a defect, please contact me with the quantity you ordered and the address it shipped to so that I can swap your cases out free of charge. Please contact me ASAP at
Happy Holidays!

A loose fit, faulty positioning of the sleeper magnet or any parts of the case becoming separated.
I notice you had a comment about the belt clip. This sounds like it is a problem also. Of course there are people who like or dislike the clip I use on my cases, but there should never be an issue with the clip not pinching together tightly enough.
Send me off an e-mail with all the details and I will make sure it is resolved.

Just wanted to say that Gizmo lives up to his word. I dropped him an email about the loose fit issue I had with his "early run" lot, and a replacement case just arrived. It's perfect in every respect. It's every bit as nice as the 2 cases I purchased for 7100s.

I agree.
I was in the minority in being one of the few who actually liked the OEM case that came with my 7100t. LOVED IT! Hope they have one for the 8700.

As one of the early Gizmoskin 8700 case users -
12-28-2005, 08:16 AM
Replacement case is perfect. Much better made. Dan is a pleasure to do business with and I will buy more from him. It is nice to see a vendor stand behind his product and fix what is not right. Please note that the swivel does notch on all units I have purchased and the leather quality was never an issue. Only the size of the early run which made the magnet less effective . I have four and they work in all cases perfectly.
PS - I have no financial relationship with Gizmoskin other than a happy user.

Swivel Clip -
12-31-2005, 08:08 AM
Here is the picture of the swivel clip which has been by concern over the Gizmo case.
http://www.fortte.com/scr/faq.php
I didn't like the security of the clip on the Gizmo case. HOWEVER, NOTE THE FORTE CLIP IS DETACHABLE. Anyone have one of these cases, and can comment on how secure that feature is?

I have one of the Fortte "Horizontal" cases on-order. It should have been shipped last Thursday. However, their website now says available week of Jan 9. I will post as soon as I get the case.

The Fortte "Horizontal" case is just what I'm looking for, but I hate the swiveling clip. I had a similar looking case for my Treo that was made by Covertec. It had a traditional leather covered metal belt clip that worked well.
I would have been all over that Fortte one, but I don't want my expensive phone just flipping around on my belt.

The horizontal case in this link looks interesting (not sure if this one has already been mentioned), but I can't tell much about the clip. Anyone orderd one yet?
http://www.bellagiodesigns.com/showcategory3.php/82
I currently have a defective Gizmo case that will be exchanged in a couple weeks. If the exchanged one has the same clip as the original, I will return it since the original has already worked itself off my belt once and fell to a carpeted floor in a crowded store. Lucky it hit my foot or I would not have even know it fell off - very bad! I also had a great experience with a Covertec case with a Treo 650. Wish they made one for the 8700c.

Mike,
You might have a look at Krusell cases then.
I'm thinking something like this (I'm not sure which size exactly is right for the Blackberry (small, medium or large.)
They have a large selection of changable belt clips that work with their cases.
If you don't like the swivel clip you can change it to things like:
or
Or just used the regular included belt loops.
Of course the only downside to these cases is their universal (not meant for the Blackberry specifically) so they won't have a magnet.

The Bellgaio case and the Fortte case appear to be the same exact thing. I have both on order but am guessing I'll end up keeping only one since they're the same. I read somewhere on the Fortte site that they are a division of Bellagio or something.
I don't think the new Gizmo cases have a different belt clip than the first production run. That's my biggest knock on the case. I think the swivel clips are much more secure. I don't have 100% confidence with the Gizmo on my belt. I hope the newly revised Gizmo I'm waiting for is better too.

Case features -

Everyone wants the sleeper magnet, but the clip seems to be preference item. For me I am unsure about these detachable clips. That is why I like the RIM OEM ratcheting clip which seems to give the most options and be most secure. Thoughts?

Now that I have had the experience of a case coming off my belt WITHOUT knowing it, I'm with you on priorities. Not really sure how much the magnet really contributes to battery life anyway since it just turns off the display. Cases are all about protection.

That's what I've been wondering.
I meant the 8700c's screen shuts off by itself after a certain period of time anyway. So what does the magent really do then? Turn the screen off quicker (as soon as it's placed into the holster) and enable locking if you have "lock when placed in holster" set? The magnet doesn't place the 8700c into some sort of super power saving mode does it?
If those are the only two feature you lose when not having a magnet I can deal without it.
If having ultra secure belt clip is your number one priority I'd definelty look at some of the Krusell clips.
Something like this:
http://www.executivepda.com/s.nl/sc....it.A/id.189/.f
They say it's their most secure option.

Looks very secure...just not crazy about having it swinging around though. A ratcheting mechanism would solve that. I don't recall the source of info, but there have been several posts indicating that the magnet does not do anything more than turn the display off.
