My favorite Van Gogh is starry night. I will definititely putting that wall paper on my 8700c when I get it.
I will also plan on making one using these images,
except I would need to create a bigger one of the kc chiefs one for it to work

I agree, the Starry Night painting is really beautiful.
One nice perk with this Zen theme...in the email/messages app, you can actually see part of the background on the top. See the attached pic below.

For those wanting to see it on a 7100, here's the screencap from the simulator. They also will be adding support for Dimension-Icon. It appears they added 'enhanced theme support', which may explain why these do not work on earlier versions of 4.1.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

I'm definately digging this theme - nice guidelines by Seattel18 and Jibi (as always, cutting the mustard on BBF). The only thing I don't like is the organisation of the Home Screen. The added Home Screen menu in Settings is great for reorganising the sub menu system that was previously Applications, but on the main home screen itself I can't find a way to shift the order (which we all know used to be Alt and a click of the trackwheel), which is annoying as I have a browser icon between SMS & MMS messages, and the Address Book.

In the home screen menu in settings is where you also shift the order for the home screen, not just the sub menu. The first 5 icons in that list show up on the home screen the rest show up in their respective order in the submenu ( the 6th icon on the home screen ).

I am seeing this too, and I did the upgrade -
03-01-2006, 10:02 AM
Yes that is a limit. What I did was find 5 icons I needed on the home page.
Messages - to show number of unread
Bluetooth - easy access
Wireless off - when on a plane
Power - easy off if needed
Pictures - to take advantange of theme.
I like it now that I got happy with the icons.

Thanks Stinsonddog. Yeah, that is what I am doing as well, but I think I will switch up which 5 I have on there as well. Your list seems to make more sense.
I finally succumbed (sp) and switched off the dial from home setting and I am taking full advantage of the shortcuts. I didn't realize I would like/appreciate them so much. Now, I never really use the scroll wheel for opening up an app. You are right about using the shortcuts.

OK Guys - I'm confused - I can't ghet this to work -
03-01-2006, 04:03 PM
I don't know what I am doing wrong but I can't get this to work. Is the following the simplest way. If not, please help. I need an idiot proof directions to get this theme on my 8700.
1 - Download the T-Mobile UK software mentioned above (with a login/pass) - 8700M_PBr4.1.0_rel224_PL2.0.0.111_A4.1.0.266.exe. Once you install it, do not open Desktop Manager just yet. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete or rename the Vendor.xml file.
Just download the COD file mentioned above and place in the correct directory (mentioned above). Where is the Cod file and which directory should I place it in?
Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files then to your 8700 installation directory and rename the current BlackBerry.alx file.
Download the ZIP file attached here and extract the BlackBerry.alx file to that location (install directory) and open Desktop Manager. It shouldn't remove anything from your current handheld, but I don't have one so I can't really test it.

Method 2 did not work for me -
03-01-2006, 04:45 PM
I had to update the OS and we (jibi helped) that the original Cingular OS may not support this without an upgrade of the OS. I went to the .284 version from the other thread in the Themes forum.

Kevin, updated instructions for you... This WILL require you to update the OS, as the Cingular OS does not have 'enhanced themes' support. Do this at your own risk.
- Download the Bharti (India) 4.1 software here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B999EC0D90D1FB
Do not mark the option to open Desktop Manager when finalizing the install.
- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete or rename Vendor.xml
- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120 and rename BlackBerry.alx to BlackBerry.alx.old
- Unzip the attached file (BlackBerry.alx) to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120
- Open Desktop Manager and upgrade when prompted

The Bharti 7100 series installation does not have the Zen theme (just checked). So good news for all...

Hey guys, isn't there an easier way to get the theme on the 8700 without changing the OS?
Wouldn't this void the warranty, as the terms and conditions for the software download state that: 'have accessed this website through the website operated by Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited solely for the purpose of downloading the Software as approved by Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited for use with its wireless network'............amoung other conditions etc???
I remember when I had my 7290, I just added the themes to the existing OS.
Please advise........

Yes but not the Zen theme -
03-02-2006, 07:40 AM
You can add one of the Orange theme and the Vodaphone one. Both use application submenus which are a pain. One O2 theme doesn't work nor does Zen. I assume they are enhanced themes not supported by the original .194 Cingular OS. The .284 OS vastly improves the phone performance. I so happy I finally did it.

I already have a .284 version for Vodafone Australia. I am worried if something ever goes wrong, they will see the OS has been changed and my warranty will be voided......

Ok then all you need to do is modify the alx file -
03-02-2006, 08:04 AM
First go to Post #1. look for the Zen theme file in your Java directory for your 8700 software. If you have not installed that version for your carrier on your PC (no Mac), then do that and find the folder with the Zen theme to confirm it is there. Then edit your .alx file per the instructions and load the zen theme or any other one you want.

Install the device software -

Either from the CD you got or from RIM's site. Not sure how you search for it on RIM's site. I have the link to Cingular and the link to Bharti was posted. But you need to find your carriers if you want that from Austrailia.

You need the 8700 software and the DM -
03-02-2006, 08:41 AM
Install the DM and install the 8700 software itself. You will have to get both those on a PC before you can do anything.

Find you carrier in the thread - who is it? You are not stupid but you need to be specific. First install DM 4.1 then install the carrier software. Then you can start to get somewhere.

Yes, it will change the OS, that's kind of the point. I know you fear the warranty issue, but this is 100% reversible, so you can change it back to your original installation if you ever need to, and no one will ever know you had a different OS version on there at one time in the past. I would suggest you go to the thread I made with the detailed instructions, follow them SLOWLY and CAREFULLY, and enjoy all the goodies and increased performance. If you ever need to revert back, that's just as easy.

@ outfocus, here's the instructions (although Vodafone has yet to post the software on their page, so you won't be able to complete the steps just yet).
- Install Desktop Software 4.1 onto your PC - this should be included with your handheld. If not, it can be found either on Vodafone (Australia)'s page (which its not posted there yet; see next step for link) or directly from RIM (select from the drop-down):
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
- Download the Vodafone (Australia) 4.1 software here (again, this is NOT available yet from Vodafone, but this is where it will be published once it is available):
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...19656875EE557C
Do not mark the option to open Desktop Manager when finalizing the install.
- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete or rename Vendor.xml
- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120 and rename BlackBerry.alx to BlackBerry.alx.old
- Unzip the file (BlackBerry.zip containing BlackBerry.alx) linked below to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120 - this file can be found here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/atta...achmentid=1925
- Connect your handheld to your PC via USB and open Desktop Software 4.1 and it should prompt you to upgrade the Core Components. If it does not prompt (which it likely won't but it might), open Application Loader and click Next - you will notice 'Upgrade' listed next to the Core Components - click Next and backup if you wish to do so (probably a good idea).
I can't be 100% sure on the BlackBerry.alx file, as I do not have their software available to download and look at. In the past, the ALX file from one vendor to the next for the same version software has been the same (although the code could vary slightly - just up to the carrier QA process), so the above should work with no issues.
P.S. - As mentioned, depending on carrier changes in the QA process, the same version number code/OS could be the exact same from one carrier to the other. So, as a test, you may want to simply install the Bharti software, delete the Vendor.xml file, and then open Desktop Manager. If it prompts you to upgrade the handheld, then just cancel it and uninstall the Handheld Software. However, if it does not, then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't move forward.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Hmmm... has anyone noticed anything weird after doing all this stuff?
I just tried to load IM+ on my BB and when I get to the final step, it says that it's going to load IM+ but remove CryptMagic and the Zen theme cause they aren't supported.
Also, the first 5 icons in Applications are not the ones that show up on my Home Screen. My Home Screen has Messages, SMS, Browser, Address Book and Calendar and I can't move them around. Not a big deal but it's interesting that some of you can .
I'm on 4.1.0.258 now.

As for it prompting you to remove the zen theme and various other modules, it doesn't have an ALX file to reference for those files, so anytime you use Application Loader it will remove non-reference modules (those w/o ALX). Sorry for the extra redundancy in statements above. This can be due to your loading an application through Application Loader then deleting the source files from your PC or loading a module/application through JavaLoader without the use of ALX and Application Loader.
@ outfocus, a shortcut to your issue could be to simply use JavaLoader to load the theme. I guess I forgot to mention that.
- Download the theme from here:
https://webdisk.ucalgary.ca/~jkon/bb...en_320x240.cod
Be sure to save it as a .cod file. In the event that you have WinZip installed, it will save as a .zip file. You can either choose 'All Files' from the 'Save type as' drop-down and then change the extension in the 'File name' field to .cod instead of .zip; or you can rename it once you've downloaded from .zip to .cod - your choice.
- Download JL_Cmder from here and unzip JavaLoader.exe to your Desktop:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/atta...tachmentid=782
- Open a command-prompt and type the following:
cd Desktop (press <enter>)
JavaLoader -u load net_rim_theme_bb_dimension_zen_320x240.cod (press <enter>)
That should load the module and reboot your phone.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Or for your browsers go to Options >Advanced>Host Routing Table. Click trackwheel and select register now.

If that doesn't work (it didn't work for me when I lost my browsing icons) go to Options>Advanced Options>Host Routing Table, then click the trackwheel and click on Register Now. You will get a message saying that that your handheld is now registered to the wireless network. The icons should then re-appear. If not, then reset your device and they will be there.

Yes, that worked many thanks jibi......also, if I change the OS, will that unlock my device? I need to unlock it cause I changed carriers to use this, and the new carrier (Vodafone) has no reception at my house and I work from home......?
Many thanks to Seattle18 too for trying, much appreciated- you guys are da best!!!!!

Nope, that won't unlock it... if it were only that simple. There are a few shops online that can do it for you, though - I believe Vodafone was one of the easier carriers to unlock.

I've just encountered what seems to a major fault with this theme.
When I was 'hiding' applications I must have accidentally hid the options button, and now, can't get into options at all as it is no where to be seen. Is there a way to show the hidden menus without going into options???
I am really stumped, like I've been locked out of my phone!!
please advise.............
