Default IMEI, 8700g, carrier identification... - 04-21-2006, 11:28 PM

I just recently got a second hand 8700g...it is an unbranded phone, and I need help unlocking it. I did an IMEI search and it is not blocked, but no SIM cards I have (T-Mobile, 3 from HongKong) will work in it leading me to believe its locked. How can I identify what carrier this is locked with so I can research getting it unlocked? I only have the information that is default in the phone, a PIN and an IMEI.... The person who I received it from has no idea about the carrier either. (was a wholesaler)

BTW, on another IMEI search, I atleast identified that the phone is from Britain, any way to tell which provider?

The 8700g is sold in the UK by O2 and T-Mobile.

Yeah, I just found that, thanks...is the T-Mobile one always branded? The unit I have has no carrier brand on it.

Hmm, if this picture means the colors they come in:

It would be an O2 one, its black? But this one is branded... oh well, this may not work out in the end...

BlackBerry devices are normally branded... I'm surprised yours is not.

try the unlock guy on ebay. He'll refund your bucks if he doesn't get it unlocked so it is a no loose try. I think it's gmphonesourse but not positive.

Or just go to www.gsmphonesource.com.

I think he needs to know the original carrier though.

Yeah, I was kind hoping that it being unbranded meant it was unlocked. That didn't seem to work out, doh...

I havn't found anyone that does unlocking for the 8700g yet (all the links in here do not) except for one place that can unlock the French model. No 02 unlocking (heck, no T-Mobile unlocking that I've come across).

Everythings for the 8700v/c/r ... :(

Yeah, you might be stuck for now... Perhaps you can contact RIM and find out?

RIM is the last option. I saw this similar situation posted in another thread but can't remember what to search for to find it.
