A review by a teen who sounded well spoken and qualified said that it is $45 extra a month. Is that because I have a different carrier than he must have. I have Tmobile and pay $19.99 extra. I think I have the internet and Tzones, and I pay $5.99 for 400 messages. Is there another package I am missing for $45 or is that a different carrier? (lol not that I need to or will spend more money. Just wanna know more about the phone and what it may do that I am not aware of)

This person said a few thing. He said he upgraded. first he had a 7290. then he "upgraded" to the Treo 650 and when the 8700 came out he got it and "upgraded"

Do you agree with what he called upgrades? Is the 8700 really better than the Palm Treos. I guess everything except not having the cam right. Once I got my 7105, I quickly realized that cams are such a novelty and totally unnecessary. But if it is better, I am totally excited.

I thought that the 7100 series phones, from my one week of working at tmobile were Phones that had the PDA functions. And the others, 7290 were PDAs that had phone capabilities. Get it? directed at different users. Well he said that he wouldn't recommend the 8700 for business people. more of a phone and texting, email etc. Do you agree? two things, first, if so then great cause I am one who wants the phone oriented BB, I was getting the 8700 because it supposedly fixed the audio problems of the 7105.

But on the other hand, what else would the business user want other than Email, corporate email (which u can do on the 7100 series), phone, texting, IM.??

Lastly, and thanks for reading. I want to give my 7105 to a friend who has cingular. Is that the carrier who currently has the phone, or for whom you want to unlock it?? Where would i find it without having to call them

Data is so much cheaper with GSM carriers in the US compared to Canada. *sigh* I pay $60/mo with Rogers Wireless and the max amount of data is 25MB/mo :(

Ok, I didn't feel like reading your whole post, but in order to unlock your 7105, you either need to get the code from T-Mobile, or pay someone like bongo to do it if you do not meet the criteria set out by T-Mobile.

I worked there for one week. Had family probs needed to leave. I know about unlocking. Not how to get the code... But again, lol, you'd be surprised how many people in the business don't know what an unlocked phone was...

Give them a call and tell them you will be traveling to another country and using a pre-paid sim card.

You need to get the code from T-Mobile. Call them, and tell them that you need the SIM unlock code, give them the IMEI, and they will send you an e-mail with the code and entry instructions. You must be a customer in good standing for at least 90 days.

I am with Cingular and it is an extra $45/month for the unlimited BB data plan. BTW, it is a true unlimited plan. Not like Rogers unlimited that is actually 25mb.

I don't think the 8700 compares at all to the Treo 650. I own both and am not at all impressed with the functionality of the 8700. While there are a few features that I do like, such as the Bluetooth integration, Blackberry devices are truly just messaging vehicles.

My 650 worked well for all sorts of tasks, from shelling into my linux box at home, to controlling a windows desktop in my office, playing MP3s or taking pictures, or running a whole slew of applications. I'm a tad confused as to why Blackberry doesn't come with some sort of Office-type software, such as DocumentsToGo (which ships with Palm for free).

Unfortunately, my company is stubborn about only allowing Blackberry devices into their Lotus Notes system, and that's one thing that Palm does not do.

Sebatical was probably talking about apps such as palm vnc, and winhand etc... they let you log in to your pc from your handheld, it's pretty slick... one of my favorite palm apps

docs to go is like MS office for palms

so it is sort of like XP's Remote PC, or the program for computers, PC Anywhere. They don't have one ON the BB 8700 or one that works with it? But as far as what it does, they can all view EXCEl, etc., work with your companys networks either that Windows platform, or that IBM one, I forget what they are called

I use Avvenu. It's free and works perfectly.

Please forgive the questions... I was just comparing the two and seeing that they have these programs. So what exactly would you need to access your computer for. Like to download files? With the 8700 playing mp3 ringtones, can it play mp3 files?

The BB data plan comes with a bucket of SMSes not to mention data so you don't need to spend that extra $5.99.

yup its like xp's remote pc... When I log into palm vnc I see my pc's desktop on my handheld...
I haven't had a BB in over a year... so I can't really give you the do's & don'ts of BB... But when I did have one you could open excel, & word attachments etc, but you just couldn't edit them without purchasing dynaplex's eOffice, that may have changed I don't know... I'm sure the BB guru's of the board can help you better than me.
The multimedia capibilites of the treo are what pulled me away from rim & to the palm side... mp3s/movies/streaming music etc... www.treocentral.com is a good place for you to find out more about treos..
