Default easy way to start/stop email polling? - 04-22-2006, 12:04 PM

I hope my question makes sense. I'm new to BB and still trying to figure it out.

I have my BIS email working correctly for new 8700 with polling with a pop email address. I didn't forward the email to my BB addresss, so I could reply with my pop email address.

Although it's working, there is a problem. I really only want to get my email on my 8700 when I'm out of the office. Currently all my emails show up on my 8700 and over a weekend I could end up with almost a hundred emails.

Is there a way to set it up so I can easily disable and enable the polling so emails only show on my 8700 when I want it...like when I'm out of the office for an afternoon and not all the time?

I looked and coudn't find an easy way to do that.

Also if there is a way to do that, when I enable the polling again will it just get new emails I receive after it's enabled, rather than get all the new email that is still on my email server that collected while the polling was off?

Thanks

When my computer is on, and Outlook is running, I don't get the messages on my blackberry - I have Outlook setup to send/receive every 2 minutes. This way it pulls down my POP3 email to my computer before the BIS Server polls and grabs it. When I head out of the office, I shut down Outlook and start getting them on my Blackberry. (And I also get them on Outlook when I get back to the office if I don't delete anything).

Works great for my purposes.

After Outlook sends/receives email does it remain on your email server, or is it deleted?

If it's deleted, that could be my problem.

I use Eudora and have it send and receive email every few minutes but I leave it on the pop server for a few days as a backup. That's probably why my email still shows up on my BB even though it's being constantly downloaded by Eudora.

I have it delete (remove it) from the server. So that's the issue.

Not sure if this will help but this is what I do. I use email filter to which my server will only forward emails who I have listed as my contacts. Which leaves a window open. Now my contacts can email me all day. This is when I go through my BB's settings and create an option that my emails are do not disturb status. That's my way of turning emails off but keep in mind they will be in my bb stored but these are from my contacts, it must be important!!

Is there a setting for the frequency (in minutes) which the 8700g will retrieve email? I have poked around quite a bit and don't see it.

(Admitted Newbie...)

Polling starts at 15 minutes and rolls down to like 5 I think.

if you have an online account and go into your email and then go into filters, you get this option:When no filters apply:
1.Forward messages to handheld
2.Do not forward messages to handheld . for T-Mo, at least..
