Default Bharti or Not to Bharti- That is the Question - 04-26-2006, 02:55 PM

I have been reading about many satisfied people who have updated to bharti that has perked my interest. On the contrary I have also read some not so successful update stories.

Is the bharti update worth doing? If so why? I like the ZEN theme but if that is the main reason to do it I might just wait.

I love the Bharti vsn. Not only do I get the Zen theme but my BlackBerry is so much louder and robust sounding. My Bluetooth performance with some of my headsets has also improved. If you install the OS and follow the instructions provided by jibi and seattle18 for the .alx file you should be fine.

Absolutely it's worth it.

Not only for the Zen theme but for the fix for ringtone and ear piece volume especially.

obviously you have searched this forum and read about the upgrade. You have to make the decision on your own whether to pull the trigger or not.

My reason for replying to you is this: where have you read of people having problems? I have seen some people who did not get all they thought they were going to get, as if the upgrade was going to make their BB do flips but I have not seen "problems". Please clarify what you are scared of.

For one example go to page two of this thread

I am in no way trying to knock bharti, I am just trying to find out what this update really does for my BB besides allowing me to use ZEN.

Let me add my vote for the upgrade on behalf of all of us technological half-wits out there. I am no hacker, but I stumbled through and was able to follow the download and installation directions, and have been happy ever since. Better clarity, less static, higher volume and the Zen thing as well. The ring tone is almost too loud.

For me, the only reason why I upgraded was for the fix to the ringtone volume/speakerphone volume bug. Everything else that it gave me was secondary. The phone would have gone back if that bug couldn't get fixed.

I don't really use Zen. I don't really notice a difference in call quality, signal strength, etc., but I'm so happy that the ringer now works as expected.

Definitely upgrade, for the sound, battery life, and Zen theme.

For sure, it is better in almost every way, just follow Seattle 18's instructions "to the letter". My only problem is with downloaded ringtones being too loud. I can make the standard ringtones a bit quieter, but even on the lowest setting the downloaded ones are actually embarassing if you are in a meeting and forget to put the phone on vibrate or silent. They are real converstion stoppers.

Has anybody used the TMO 4.1 to compare its loudness with Bharti?

Much easier than a root canal, and now I can hear my tooth better too. Just did it for another of my work colleagues. They all love it.

I just completed it.

My first comparison is after the bharti update BB is definetly more slugish.

It is that way for the first few mins of usage. I took the battery out and let it sit for a while and restarted it and bam! life was good, it'll come around though.

I still have problems hearing with the headset (BT and wired). Its hit or miss. If my girlfriend calls me its ok. If I call her its marginal. I'm contemplating re-installing it.

So from random posts I have heard bharti:

1. Fixes ringer volume bug
2. Improves Bluetooth performance
3. Improves earpiece sound quality
4. Capability to use ZEN theme

Those posts are from February when everyone was still figuring it out. The original install was much more comlicated than the streamlined version people are using now. I am a computer dope( and I do not say that lightly) and I did it the original way and the new, shorter version. First time both times, it worked great and I am happy. Follow the directions to the tee and you are good to go.

I really have not heard of any problems, as in someone who's BB was ruined or whatever. There have been install problems but it is from people not following the directions. Even when that happens the Zen gurus like Seattle18 or Jibi will jum,p in and save the day.

Go for it, you will be happy.

Thanks I did. I consider myself no expert but pretty computer/gadget savy, and the actual update was easy. (except for one bump in the road caused by me having my BB hooked up to my computer through a USB hub during the update. *NOTE to anyone who tries to do the update with their BB device hooked up through a USB hub, you might not be able to get past the "Connect to the loader ROM" step. Just make sure you are directly connected and you will be fine)

So far so good. I am VERY interested to spend some time on the phone to see if I truly notice a difference in ear piece sound quality. I also vaguely remember reading someones post here about reception improving. I did not include it in my list I posted earlier because I couldn't remember which post as to reference if need be, but if that is true I would be ecstatic.

I did the Bharti upgrade. I've noticed all the improvements that have been much discussed. But I would do it again if the only improvement was the Zen theme. Gotta love that theme.

Yeap gotta love the theme. And the volume too. That was another big plus. To me, the BB feels more responsive. But that's probably just me.

I just got my 8700g from T-Mo, and don't need to try the Bharti, cuz my ringer is REALLY f'in loud. So loud, that I can't even put a notification alert for SMS anymore, because it'd annoy the crap out of everyone. Low is LOUD. Medium is deafening. I don't even wanna try high, because I'll probably blow the speaker.

Congrats. See, easy as pie.

Add to your list that extensions or any other number dialed after a phone number (such as voice mail code) are dialed really fast. They used to plod along.
