Default Launcher finally launched - 04-30-2006, 02:47 PM

I was wondering if I my recent order of the Seidio swivel clip holster was just an indulgence. After all, I had never had an accident with the original.
Well today I was running to catch a streetcar - my holster was rotated 90 degrees as I had just been sitting on the subway - and my 8700 launched in a graceful arc and landed in a face plant several feet in front of me. It was actually rather spectacular. No internal damage done. I had a SIM Card Error for the first time which was fixed by opening it up and shifting the SIM position. Otherwise just a new visible scratch on the screen as a battle scar from my Blackberry's superman act.
Now I can't wait for that Seidio holster...

Shocking an 8700 that took more than a 3ft fall and the screen didn't crack. Count yourself lucky...

Yes I feel very lucky. I have noticed one residual effect: my battery door is looser and the sound effects from Circle Popper are now a tactile experience in my hand. Could be a piece of foam rubber in my future....

I dread the day that that first happens to me. It might be a little further away since I stopped using the launcher and started using the leather case that TMobile sells.

This holster just never felt secure with my 8700, my old 7280 had a beautiful holster, i knew i could trust that thing, never "launched" my berry.

I even put more faith in the soft sided 7100 holster than the 8700's

That's why I bought the OEM leather case at first opportunity.

No longer do I hold my berry when I run to make sure it doesn't fall out.

I loved my 7100t holster (without having experienced an aftermarket one).

I bought the Seidios for my team because there were far too many launches with the OEMs. Safe and secure now.

In all of my time using cell phones/pagers/two way messaging devices, I've never had one fall out of a holster. In fact, I've only dropped a phone twice in my life. Once I missed the holster and wasn't paying attention, and the other getting out of the car and holding the phone to my ear with my shoulder... not the most secure way of holding one...

When I got my 8700g, I had it get launched out of the holster twice... the first day. Once was with the holster rotated 90 degrees. Simply walking in my house *pop* there it goes! Guess it liked my carpet. The second time, it was right side up and I was going to sit down *pop* there is goes again. Luckily, it landed in my lap the second time.

In the course of an hour, I doubled the drops I've ever had... and for the past year I've carried at least two devices on my belt (one personal, on for testing at work).

Good job supporting aftermarket case manufacturers, RIM!

Jester
