Alright so I've currently got the telstra OS on my 8700g and just for safety's sake i'm going to put back on the TMo OS before my warranty replacement comes. I don't want to give tmo a reason to complain at me even though I'm getting a replacement for a physical defect. Only problem... I don't know how and can't find it with using the search feature!

uninstall Telstra. install T-Mobile. open up Desktop Manager. open up Application Loader. follow the instructions.

Remove the Telstra OS from your PC then do a javaloader -usb wipe, and install the T-Mo software

If you are sending the unit back to T-Mo or selling and old BB is would ALWAYS do a -usb wipe but that's just me!

You dont even have to do a wipe the system will prompt him to install the different version and in this case it will say downgrade, more than likely.

Oh I understand that but would you really feel confortable sending the unit out with data still on the ribbon?

If you ever sell, trade or return a BB it the safe method to wipe it clean before doing so.

Same goes for old PC's... Format the hard drive before selling, or giving away. Its just much safer that way in this day and age of idenity theft!

for the sake of just downgrading the OS, javaloader isn't the most user-friendly of tools to suggest... i'm sure apple knows how to do a security wipe when he's done downgrading (or you can just mark the option to wipe everything)

I went back to .284 and I'm back to being happy. The network doesn't drop off for me and I can hear calls clearly. I'd stick with this one for now..or until we get the next big upgrade.

Is having more network drops a common problem after changing OS? I noticed that after i switched OS and installed Zen theme that i get alot of frequent network drops, even though they only last a few seconds.

I am on the Telstra in Kansas City and I have had no network drops. I guess it must depend on your area because I've not seen that problem.

Are you advocating that people sell, trade or exchange a BB with their data still on it?

For every person you produce that has had a bad javaloader exp there are a thousand more who have had their lives ruined (their life, not a $300 BB) by leaving data on a computer, BB, Palm, ect....

Do me a favor and send me your hard drive. I will know every key stroke you have made since you purchased it. Again, this is your forum so I will play by your rules.

i explained in PM. no harm, no foul. not advocating leaving the data on there either. keep in mind that in my real day job, i do more than just moderate this forum... i am heavily involved in the information security and systems administration for a company that is #1 in the world in its market (a branch of telecommunications).

there are positives and negatives to all 3 methods of wiping a blackberry. a security wipe is the easiest method, javaloader takes some technical knowledge (not to me and not to you, but as mentioned, explain to some people what a command-line is and then tell them to use javaloader - its just easier to tell them to reload the OS and do a security wipe after the fact), and an apploader erase will remove some software settings that neither one of the other two wipes will do (such as protocol configuration).

p.s. - i've only banned a single person (under multiple names) on here. i'm definitely an advocate of letting people socialize as intended within internet communities.

Well, it was so bad for me after I installed Telstra that I even called T-Mo and they're sending me a new unit. They also sent me a new sim card today which I received. I did reinstall Bharti, and I think i'm ok. But still....

I'll wait another day or 2 and see if the network drops continute. I usually wear my BT headset, so i can hear a beep when the network drops(that's how I noticed so many yesterday). I've only had the new OS for a few days, so maybe I can switch back to the TMO OS and still use Zen theme. Not sure if this is possible since i'm new so i guess i'll just open a new thread and ask....

I have to say something. We had the 8700g and it was droping calls too and it was all original, also the BIS kept on messing up. Well using the regular cell since then the calls kept on droping in my area and it was no better so my conclusion is it is a network issue for T Mobile. Any way after contacting them many times about the issues and them not doing so, both account were closed and ported over today. I just wanted to point this just in case this might be the case and not the OS upgrade. By the way the location is in nassau county NY.

For those of you having drops since upgrading to Telstra's OS from T-Mobile's OS, here's some hybrid installation instructions to use the Telstra OS and T-Mobile radio code. I cannot verify the hybrid configuration works or not, but it would make sense that they would (hehe). No one has apparently tried it out yet to let me know if it worked or not.

The defect is this is my second one with a battery door that is way to loose. As a matter of fact this one won't even stay on unless i keep my finger on it. tried inserting a business card too didn't work! thanks guys for all the help i'll be loading it in a minute.
